Just a few thoughts about being in the Loft.

If this is a place where you can express your views without all the hyperbole and angst and angry rebuttals, why are we not discussing our differences here?

I have, of course, a theory.

Partisans, on both sides, don't want to discuss a topic with civility. THAT would require nuance. It would also require a bit of knowledge about said topic.

SO, can we discuss why people prefer the forums where everyone can get nasty instead of discussing a topic, regardless of the subject, with some civility?

I would much prefer we were doing it here or at least trying to do it as if we were here one way or the other.

Considering how few have shown up here, I guess they like it better where they can slag each other.

This is your much more level headed version of my recent meltdown. I compliment you on the tone. :)❤️

My problem is I really just want to have good debates. Yeah they are going to get hot at times. Otherwise why would we do it?

No one wants to post in the Loft. But the "most downstairs area" is VERY active lol. Maybe it is just a gravity thing... all threads get pulled down by the gravity of the black hole?

I refuse to debate anyone who refuses to insult me.

You are not discussing your differences with this post.

Why not?

Because THAT is not the topic. The topic is why we don't debate topics here.

i hardly noticed this place until i saw your Cartoon face surfing thru.

so how do we debate here? my preference at times is to go to the basement and do free speech cause i wanna know how people feel for real about the issues with no constraints.

go ahead Snow, start something here and see if it sticks anyway. we all can learn some new tricks; however my Mind is made up, so..........

Even sexy flirtatiousness pales in comparison to the amount of interest there is and hating each other, tearing each other's souls to shreds and acting like baboons.

Sadly, I think it's that simple. I've been guilty of it myself. Even though I hate that.

And the main forums are really just a slightly filtered version of downstairs.

For some, there is no doubt what you say. I believe most of us come here for the entertainment and because we have a few minutes to kill. No one comes here to change anyone's mind.

There is the rub. Because we aren't face to face we can act in childish ways that we would never act if we were face to face. Hence, we let out our inner beast. But that too is done for entertainment. If any of us were serious about changing someone else's mind we would do honest debate.

I realized when I posted THIS thread there would be little activity. Because honest debate is boring. It requires us to keep our emotions in check. It also requires us to actually LISTEN to what the other has to say.

As @Revelation suggested, maybe I should start a topic and see what kind of response I will get. I believe if I go back over my posting history I will find that I did attempt one at some point and it flopped. As the saying goes..............c'est la vie.

well of course this can be entertaining, Snow you are excellent at starting threads with a twinkle in yur eye.

but many here ARE serious, especially in Politics and Religion, others not so much. i try to be, but a little humor helps the medicine go down me feels.

some of this is accurate; i went to a No Kings this weekend, even though i am not completely on their page and find the opposition to the Orange quite credible in their beliefs. they understood my POV and listened actually understanding some Basic Concepts i preach on here and agreed with me on them.

Snow i think you would be ideal for this forum and they should give you some official title for just this Loft forum to help moderate it and bring some interest here.

i noticed this forum only after seeing yur Snowflake Logo and was curious what this was about. hopefully more will be pleasantly surprised and try to create a better forum right here.

As @Revelation suggested, maybe I should start a topic and see what kind of response I will get.

go ahead and see, can't hurt. i did that in the Fight Club, a forum where people tend to be Very Rude most of the time. however i want to know what people think without fear of points earned and endless rules et al. call it Freedom of Speech with all it's messiness included.

however no matter how Rough people are on me in the Fight Club, i try to keep a christian response and at least give a reasoned attempt for what i think regarding all the issues that interest me. the Fight Club is good to see what people really are on the inside without much moderation.

this Loft could be different to see if we can be Moderate in our demeanor and truly seek a higher Purpose here other than to win some debate fight. which is what i call 'The Truth'; well what is 'The Truth' ? that is more important to me than winning any kind of debate. if i am wrong, then admit it and move on.

meh, we can't be successful 100% of the time. my claim to accuracy is 0 to 99%, basically admitting i am open to being wrong....and we all should be that way i feel. however some are not, they will always be right.

Snow, i think you can make a difference here, and would like to see what you have. you do well creatively in the Political side, but maybe there are Real Life issues of interest you might wanna expound on.

Edit, another thing, there is actually a list of rules for this forum, just found it after commenting: https://debatepolitics.com/threads/forum-rules.256098/

it says no debating, i assume we just discuss the issues here, which would be different. maybe someone can Explain that to all of us what the difference might be. ???

thanks in advance.

Because I already know who will be ruffled by my presentations. Some would say that is deliberate. I say it is an invitation to challenge me without being ruffled.

some of this is accurate; i went to a No Kings this weekend, even though i am not completely on their page and find the opposition to the Orange quite credible in their beliefs.
Yet, we had posts made by the usual suspects this weekend mocking the protests and predicting riots. THEY would never have attended one of those protests, instead they spent the day on Fox getting outraged.

Debating IS discussing. It is the tone of the debate that is the issue.

how do you know Juin ?

have you tried ? in real life i doubt that is yur MO, maybe we can do some Real Life down here for a change.

Give Snowflake a chance i feel; he has a lot of Talent coming up with Topics in our usual Venues.........maybe just maybe he can pull off something new down here. in other words 'be Creative', take Leadership talent to do that.

Juin, give it a whirl yur self. some how you found yur way down here. this is the first i really noticed this place myself....maybe we can have Nice Things some times.

On chat sites, I usually feel I'm talking to the audience, not so much the person I'm directly addressing. That's why I'll provide cites, URLs, etc. - so that anyone interested can go see the info I'm working from.

Loft is an interesting word, noun or verb. I think I prefer the verb.
