Head Start and heating assistance targeted in Trump draft budget proposal (1 Viewer)

1. You said “We already have free college, just not at a $80,000 / yr college. ”
I just pointed out that none of the state colleges in my state are free. In fact none of the colleges are free.
Then move to a different state.
2. Plumbers and welders
“To become a plumber or welder, education typically involves a combination of high school, vocational training, and apprenticeship programs. A high school diploma or equivalent is often required, followed by vocational or trade school for specialized skills. Apprenticeships, which can last 4-5 years, provide hands-on experience and further training. “

See, it ain’t just a high school diploma.
I'm looking up welding jobs in Texas:

The only license/certificate listed is a driver's license. "People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply"
That’s roughly 2 years of vocational training and then apprenticeship.

3. That wasn’t their net worth. That’s what was in checking. The overdraft was because of bank policy.
So keep more $ in checking?

Does the "bank policy" cap their account balance at $100 or something?

Again, you talk about whatever fantasy world you want, but the rest of us are under no obligation to discuss your fantasy world.
My "fantasy world" where people can control their sexual behavior?

**** you low income people, we need to make cuts so we can give rich people tax cuts.

I guess we can be thankful that Trump is at least going through Congress to get rid of these things!

My son was speech delayed, and got speech therapy funded through Head Start. I make good money and we could have paid for it, but it was free for us.

That this is being ended is insane. We might as well be talking about ending public education entirely, and go back to wealthy people paying for tutors as was done during the Middle Ages.

Only getting 12 years of free education (and plenty more at affordable rates) = back to the Middle Ages where only the rich can afford private tutors. I assume that means nobody will be able to read except a few wealthy people and the occasional professional scribe?

You are really teeing this up for me aren't you, Cosmo? With all the attacks on public education for children that Republicans have been engaging in for as long as I have been alive, as well as attacks on anti-child labor laws, I do not doubt that they will want public education cut as well. Why 12 years? Why not just 10? Perhaps only 4 is necessary? Have the kids be able to read, write and do basic mathematics, and then send them off to a factory. It was good enough for the people who built this country to send their ten year-old to a coal mine to keep food on the family's table. We can do it again.

"Teeing this up" for you = prompt you to double down on your ridiculous slippery slope?

What "slippery slope"? The Republicans have been making everything worse for everyone they govern (except the very rich) and taking maximalist right-wing policy positions wherever they have been given power, whether we are talking about eliminating all abortion rights in Texas, or rolling back child labor protections in Arkansas, or allowing non-medical governmental officials to be allowed to molest little children without parental knowledge to check if they have a penis or vagina before playing sports in West Virginia. If anything, I might be too generous to them.

Trump already had 4 years to cut K-12. So how many years of K-12 did he cut in his first 4 years in office?

He had sane conservatives around him before in the first. Now he has right-wing people around him who can charitably be referred to as, well, is "demons" too strong a word? I'll just call them demons. These are people who not only hate Democrats and people who vote for Democrats and want to pursue every policy they can think of to hurt them, but want to make the world a worse place for literally everyone in it, themselves included. These are people who are indistinguishable in terms of their emotional and mental states from school shooters. It would not surprise me if they left it up to the states whether or not to eliminate public education entirely.

No, it's what I'd expect in the middle of a leftist meltdown.

Dude, come on. That is such a soy response. What, are you going to call me a triggered snowflake next? Perhaps an SJW?

Yes, your post is extremely melodramatic to put it mildly.

Bet none of this thread’s leftoids have offered to pay a poor person’s utility bill.

Cool. I did too.

“How to Become a Welder in Texas (2024)

  • Texas welding certification requirements include: completing a high school diploma/GED, graduating from an accredited welding program, passing AWS certification tests, and obtaining specialized certifications like API for pipeline welding or AWS D1.1 for structural steel.”

2. No. The bank policy chose the order to take the transactions so that it maximizes overdraft fees.

As pointed out, the money was deposited in the account.

1. Why? Why not simply make state college free ?
Why not just make everything free? Because we don't want to end up like the Soviet Union. Some people also consider it wrong to make an $80k/yr plumber who didn't go to college pay for your degree so you can make $800k/yr. Why do you have such a big problem with paying for things that benefit you financially? Should you pay for my $100,000 tractor trailer I use to make $120,000 a year? What about my dental office and equipment I use to make $500,000/yr?

Why are you looking up some random blog post when I already posted a real job ad?
2. No. The bank policy chose the order to take the transactions so that it maximizes overdraft fees.
How did that make you overdraw your account? I dunno where you bank, but I've never had an overdraft, and all it took was looking up my balance on the banking app and not charging more than I had. Not complicated.

1. I stated why not make college free.? Let’s stick to that shall we? No need for you to go all strawman.

Hmm let’s see. So the 80k person helps pay for my college so I can make 300k a year. Which means : 1, when he gets hurt or sick he has US educated doctor able to handle his medical issues.
Making 300k a year means I pay a lot more in taxes and thus can say help pay for his Medicaid for his nursing home or assisted living.
Of course it also means that 80 k making person doesn’t have to worry about his sons college education.

Investing in college education for people ends paying huge dividends.

2. Because the high price of college discourages highly qualified people from getting that education. Which hurts our economy, especially when our competitors around the world ARE providing free public education.

3. Because it shows that there are expectations for more than just high school to be a welder. Your job posting required a year already of experience with mig welding.

4. Sweet baby Jesus . It’s pretty simple.

You start with 100 in your account. You deposit your check of 200 into the account .

On the same day you pay your utility bill of 200 buy 50 dollars in groceries and a 5 dollar coffee.

The bank chooses the order of your transactions . It processes the utility payment of 200 first. Now you are overdrafted,
Then it process the 50 dollar grocery charge another overdraft
Then it processes the 5 dollar coffee another overdraft
And then it finally processes your deposit.

You were going on and on about extensive education requirements/5-year-long apprenticeship needed. There is none at this job. It's literally the first job I found in Texas. I don't even see high school as a requirement.
Since you aren't keeping track of who is posting what; I think you are not interested in a real discussion. It is a waste of my time to continue and your also. Surely you have something better to do than be argumentative, misrepresent other's points of view and reduce their arguments mocking absurdity.

We get that already. People already consider it worth going into debt to make the big bucks. Why do we need to add more incentive?
2. Because the high price of college discourages highly qualified people from getting that education. Which hurts our economy, especially when our competitors around the world ARE providing free public education.
Then get government out of student lending. Should bring the tuition costs down.

Maybe deposit your check a day earlier, or wait a day to make your purchases?

Oh, and don't buy restaurant coffee if you're broke.

Whether you brought up long apprenticeships or interjected in the discussion hardly changes the facts.

1. But many highly qualified people do not.
And as the price of college rises the cost / benefit gets worse. Particularly for valuable fields that may not pay as well such as teachers.
2. We should. Instead tgat money should go to supporting free college at state universities , colleges and trade schools
3, or banks shouldn’t be allowed to do predatory practices.
Face it, you didn’t know that banks could do this.
4. Who said they were broke? Not me,

I found this out the hard way. I went into my bank and deposited a rather large check and asked when it would be deposited in my account.
The teller rather rudely tapped the sign in front of me that said “ deposits before 3pm will be accredited to this days transaction.
Cool. I planned to write a check for a jet boat that night.
Which I did

Months later I get this notice that I’m being taken to collections by my bank for a 200 bill for non payment on a line of credit I never signed up for and knew nothing about.

The bank had without my permission assigned a line of credit to my account. And they said I used like 20 dollars of it, and then failed to pay getting fees every month.( of course I knew nothing about it)

The bank couldn’t tell me where I took out 20 dollars for a line of credit.

I told them I wouldn’t pay if they couldn’t prove when I took that money. Eventually I figured out what happened. They “ deposited” that check but because of its sized they decided to defer making all funds available . So the next day they chose to first pay on the check I wrote for the jet boat, then release the rest of the funds to the account causing an overdraft of 20 dollars which they put on the unknown “ line of credit”. ( so it didn’t show as an overdraft)

Needless to say I didn’t pay it and I closed all the accounts with them.

Just pointing out that the banks can also be responsible for overdrafts.

1. But many highly qualified people do not.
And as the price of college rises the cost / benefit gets worse. Particularly for valuable fields that may not pay as well such as teachers.
First of all, there are plenty of highly qualified people. Organizations needing them have options like paying for tuition.
2. We should. Instead tgat money should go to supporting free college at state universities , colleges and trade schools
Secondly, I don't think a more bloated government is the solution to a problem the government created. Again, where is the problem?
3, or banks shouldn’t be allowed to do predatory practices.
Face it, you didn’t know that banks could do this.
I read about it. Never experienced it personally since, again, I don't overdraft my account.

As for banks charging for it, it's an on-demand unsecured loan to a likely financially unreliable and undisciplined person. Banks should charge what they want (provided they disclose it).
4. Who said they were broke? Not me,
If they have $100 bucks in the bank and are habitually overdrawing it, they're very likely broke.

What does this unusual situation resulting in a line of credit have to do with overdrafts and overdraft fees affecting people who habitually overdraw their accounts?
