Have you ever been a smoker?

Not so much a smoker, but at this point im reliant on nicotine to get through the day and it kinda sucks. Hopefully I can pull back this summer or at some point.

When I have alcohol? For sure, one of these days all those drunk cigs will catch up to me, but theres nothing better.

Only smoked pot a couple of times.. Never liked it, rather have a couple of gin and tonics... Smoked cigarettes for about 15 years, quit about 20 years ago...

Now?.. Just cigars...

Depends. Weed or tobacco. One a lot, the other not at all.

I resisted all through high school. When I was 12 or so I bought a pack of smokes fora quarter and told the guy they were for my granny. I got caught and had to smoke about six in a row. After HS, I started hanging at the bars, DC had an 18 age for alcohol. It was just natural to smoke and drink. I quit for a short time in my late teens, then I joined the Army. Smoked about two packs a day for 25 years. During that time I quit many times, once lasting five years. I can smoke just one……..back to buying cartons in less than two weeks.

One of my last smokes was the night of 9/11. Me and the missus built a house in 1999 and I promised not to smoke inside. I would take an after dinner and before bed smoke on the rear deck. We live south of DC and must be on an approach to both DC airports. Five to six planes would pass overhead during the time it took me to smoke one cigarette. On the night of 9/11, the silence was eerie, nothing was flying. I have been good since then and cannot tolerate the smell of tobacco.

i sometimes smoked a bit, but that was a long time ago
Ever smoked as a regular smoker, no, no, never. Ever smoked a cigerette or cigar, a few cigerettes when I was trying to figure out why it was cool, it's not. A cigar at one of my kids weddings and once with one of my brother in laws.
About one smoke for each 20 years of my life.

Never smoked. Not even weed and it's legal where I live.

My father, mother, and brother smoked. All smoked non filter brands. YUCK! I think I tried once as a teen, and it was not for me!
Tried weed once and it was not for me either.

I'm not old enough for this, but it's funny.

I tried a cigarette once. I was kinda dared to at work one day. He didn't think I'd do it. I smoked almost all of it. I hated how my mouth tasted and smelled afterwards. It wasn't for me, thankfully.

I started smoking at 14 and continued for many years before quitting. I now have a low-dose CT scan annually to detect any early signs of lung cancer. My grandfather started smoking as a teenager. When he was older, my teenaged (at the time) mother used to roll his cigarettes for him. He lived to be 98.

Not so sure some of you younger folks know about this, but we used to get these little packs of cigarettes with our C-Rations. Not sure I remember correctly, but maybe 10 in a pack. Winston or Marlboro, maybe.

I think in certain AOs, such as overseas tours of duty [in some locations] it was no big deal to be smoking, as one really wasn't so sure they'd be 'walking' out of the AO. Thing was, that tobacco did actually help calm down the nerves AFTER the firefight or rough mission. Fear and weird feelings didn't usually hit until it was over and after you dealt with any wounded. Or worse. THEN feelings kicked in and a smoke was an easy thing to do. (AO = Area of Operations)

I did some tobacco smoking back then. Off and on after that. Never was what could be called a heavy tobacco type user. And haven't smoked in many years. Got into sports for a number of years and that tobacco was no good at all when one wanted to do a given sport properly. And "properly" meant a whole bunch of practice needing to be done.

My gosh, you caused a memory spike in this old brain. That is exactly correct about shop class. Making an ashtray was not at all unusual. Haven't thought about that in a very-very long time!

Many moons ago when I was young and stupid
Same here. I quit 25 years ago and it's the best thing I ever did.

Now I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke anymore.
I make anyone that comes into my house go outside to smoke their cancer sticks
