The idea is this: Any party out of power is going to be critical of those in power. This is the natural order, and simply put, it's easier to get a negative message out, and often more effective. What I wonder these days is if the natural tendency to do this has not escalated to the point where it will end up hurting the republicans. For some examples:

Stepping away from our liberal or conservatives ideologies, how do you think the independents and middle of the road types view these types of attacks? Is making attacks on these type of issues the right thing to do for republicans, is it going too far and going to hurt republicans, or won't it have any effect?
Edit: poll added.
It didn't hurt the Dems. Why would it hurt the Republicans?
even those who used the term did not believe Bush sincerely adhered to the principles of a totalitarian ideology.
Just look at the number of DP forum members here who are now unwilling to be self-Identified as GOP members.
Why is that??
While some people called Bush a Nazi, it wasn't a staple view of the leftwing, and even those who used the term did not believe Bush sincerely adhered to the principles of a totalitarian ideology. The same can't be said for the Republicans and their accusations that Obama is a socialist.
In the mean time, I would point out that this thread's poll results back up the opinion that the GOP's anti-Obama rhetoric is hurting the GOP itself by an over 2 to 1 margin, & DP is hardly a left wing slanted forum.

I never said a word about changing their status??Your logic leaves my head hurting.
What forum members have changed their status since these attacks and critcisms started?
You listed some important reasons why the GOP has lost much of it's (non-far right) base of fiscal & moral conservatives.I remember a few changed it when the Republicans nominated Joe Moderate, Mr. Bipartisan, McCain or did it when he scolded people for using "Hussien".
I know others (I fall in this category) changed it some time before then when they either got fed up and/or left the Republican party due to the representitives of the party stopped upholding the principles they supported.
I don't know of a single person on here that switched their political lean or affiliation because they feel the republicans criticisms have "Gone to far".
Are you denying the simple poll results?Did you bother to look to see who answered, and how?
You didnt answer his question. Are you denying the simple poll results?
I never said a word about changing their status??
The simple mathematics of the very few self-identified Republicans here..... speaks volumes. How many Librarianship, Conservatives or even Moderates would have identified themselves as Repubs just a few years ago??....I woukld guess quite a few.
A unscientific poll on Debate Politics which doesn't mandate everyone on the board to vote in it really tells us...nothing...other than what those individual people think.
How many would identify themselves as Democrats in 1981 compared to 1976? Even if we go with your meaningless statistic, there are 143 more self identified Conservatives here than Liberals.
Anyone that complains about the treatment The Obama is receiving that treated GWB in the same manner need not be taken seriously.
As for "have they gone too far"?
Free speech.
So long as what they do falls under it, they have every right to do it.
Are you denying the simple poll results?
Question: Have the Republican Gone Too Far in Criticizing Obama?
By over a 2 to 1 margin the answer is YES:
Yes, these type attacks in this number is harmfull to republicans 24
My simple argument is that today's GOP no longer represents conservatives. It represents: Elderly, Christian (born again), white, rural males. You can't win national elections with just them anymore.
*Ahem*
Did you bother to look to see who answered, and how?
(You . . . don't even understand why that's a relevant question, do you?)
Seems to have been working thus far.The intent was not to complain, nor to talk about whether it is a right, the intent was to talk about whether the tactic would be successful.
Seems to have been working thus far.
And, of corurse, one must ask:
Why do you care?
Since you are obviously champing at the bit.....Please....go ahead & enlighten us.
No, I mean why would you care if the tactic doesnt work for and/or harms the GOP?Why wouldn't I care? I care about who is in power in this country since it will have an impact on me.
No, I mean why would you care if the tactic doesnt work for and/or harms the GOP?
I see.Because whether it works or not will have an impact on elections, which I care about.
