I have a somewhat close "acquaintance" that detests Trump to the point where it's clearly visceral. I never want the topic brought up but inevitably this person finds some detail in an otherwise perfectly superficial, casual discussion to launch into an insult fest about Trump, and I will momentarily be obliged to watch this individual's face and voice distort with rage. And even if a tirade can be avoided, at minimum he'll find some reason to blurt out something about "magats" as if he's inflicted with a form of Tourette's. It's so unpleasant and so irrational that I now do my best to avoid any interaction. So in that regard, I guess "politics" has impacted a personal relationship, but not due to me nor do I ultimately consider it "politics," although Trump is president. It's more like an "invasion of the body snatchers." I have zero interest in going our for a drink with a group of friends or hanging out with family to talk about Trump, but the people who are obsessed by him seem bound and determined to dump their fury on anybody they think they've got cornered into listening, especially somebody they suspect of being a Republican or apolitical enough to be viewed as prey
People just want to be heard and acknowledged. If you spent 24/7 in a TDS echo chamber you too would want to enthusiastically share your newly found 'knowledge and insight' to anybody who would lend you a ear.

That is not what he said.

I have been quite pleased that a lot of the conservatives here that I always respected even while almost always disagreeing with have denounced MAGA.

MAGA is a cult.

Look up the definition. Find one that doesn’t describe MAGA.
There is definitely more than one cult then, at least two. I consider the entire group of obsessed, anti-Trump hyperbolic demonizers a cult, and it certainly fits every definition. These people will literally say or do anything no matter how dishonest to exalt Trump into their collective scapegoat for what really amounts to their personal frustrations and failures. I will say, I am grateful to Americans that have stuck hard to truths and not resorted to what is truly an adolescent, selfish and dangerous movement. These "hate-Trump" people think that by socially excoriating somebody that they will win?? Unlikely. "Just the facts" are all that matter in the nation, and we must hold fast to it

Oh hell yeah.

I stopped associating with people with no morals (unless I had no choice).

I lot a couple of friends over the years because I refused to be converted to MAGA, but nit recently.

However, I do have customers who won't come into my store because I've ignored their requests to not serve Latinos because they "know for a fact" all of them are illegal. Then there was that time in the past month when an elderly white woman demanded that I go outside the door tell a teenage African American to hitch up his pants because he was clearly a "gangbanger" and she claimed he was going to mug her (his father was in the store while he was on his cell).

It has started getting difficult as more white customers will wait for a white cashier to open up or wait for me to run a register They don't want to be waited on by one of two minority associates on my staff. At this point, I'd say 10% of the people who walk through the door will do that. BTW, my store is in a pocket of traditionally conservative neighborhoods in central Maryland.

GWB’s first term was the breaking point for me — I allowed myself to think some cousins were not worth close contact.

DJT’s first term solidified that position.

Chest pounding and prejudice is not what I want to associate with — plus ignorance about how our family’s origins were once looked down upon.

Nope. Because any of the people I know that voted for him, don't have much to say lately. Voter remorse is a real thing.

Yeah, I felt that way when Biden was president and I was hanging out with a Biden hater.

We are having an issue with a local spectrum connection to the point I put in a complaint with the BBB. My wife and I work from home and have recently switched providers to a cellular connection. We looked at starlink and my wife and I immediately had a hearty laugh at the thought.
Cellular coverage like with T Mobile not available yet here for me yet

Maryland?? Yeah, that sounds highly suspect. I'd like to believe you, Jason, but uh, Maryland?? Mmm, not too many corners of Maryland that would likely react like that, if any. Btw, nobody "waits" for a white cashier, Jason, even in the heart of the most conservative areas in Florida. Racism = conservatism is pretty much defunct. Your post seems a bit off, well, not just a bit

Do you live in Maryland? More importantly, do you know voting patterns? The politics of Maryland? Don't get me wrong, we are a blue state, but there are pockets of conservatism that exist here. And while you can call my post anecdotal, certainly, but you can't prove that it didn't happen either.

I am retired so I no longer have interaction with clients. One of my neighbors is a Trumper but we still hug and chat. My BIL has a partner who is Cuban so he believes (from the Castro days) that all Democrats are Communists. They are big Trumpers but we always find other topics to discuss, like partying in Miami in the 80's, so we always get along.

So, no.

I have no idea what that means. What I do know is that you libs are filled with nothing but hate. You have just deceived yourselves into thinking that your hatred and anger is righteous.
You seriously do not see the hate and disdain oozing from your posts?

And not just here, you have thousands of posts on this forum and it oozes prolifically.

But I try to keep it classy. I let them froth and then wish them a good day.

Parts of Maryland and the panhandle of West Virginia are extremly racist (Or we can just blame it on West Virginia hillbillies traversing to the "big city of Cumberland" for a fancy meal.) My Dads side of the family lived in that area and opened my city dwelling eyes to a very high level of prejudice to "others" at a very young age.

For me it's keeping my political opinions down at work. To be fair that's true for any socialist but for me and what I do in my job? It's vital because the moment it gets out I'm a socialist is the moment I lose my job. I volunteer at my local Food not Bombs and I'm genuinely scared of what would happen to me if my bosses found out that I wash dishes there.

"partying in Miami in the 80's".....Does you neighbor still have at least most of his nose left? LMAO..

And let me guess: that "eye opening" happened several decades ago??

Would rather not know political beliefs for people in the real world who are in my life more personally than online forums. Don't ask don't tell works pretty well.

That said, have no problem letting people know where I stand on any specific issue if asked.

My neighbor is a female who grew up in Dallas, so yes she has her nose. My BIL and his partner grew up in Miami. They never did coke. I did coke once and it made me mean so that was that.
