Harris dodges question on lowering prices by describing 'middle-class' roots: Neighbors 'proud of their lawn'

Biden Administration: No New LNG Export Terminals

The White House calls a pause until the climate threat of methane gas is fully evaluated

The 2–1 vote of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approving the $10 billion Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2) terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, doesn’t mean developer Venture Global will begin construction on the facility to export condensed and super-cooled methane. But it is a big step forward for the company, which has been asking FERC to approve its two-and-a-half-year-old application since February.

In a statement after the decision, the company indicated it was waiting for approval from the U.S. Department of Energy to export the fuel to some countries — the approvals that were paused by the Biden administration in January.

See? No real power.

Government can affect prices overnight by announcing policy initiatives. It's a futures market.
Speculative at best.

I did see that. That debate was atrocious. I couldn't even believe the behavior of those moderators. They were an embarrassment to their profession.
Not near as atrocious as Trump's.

You are late to the party@gbg3 tried to make this a Harris gotcha thread and failed miserably. it was a very good interview. Not even once did she denigrate fellow Americans or human beings, no lies, and no mane calling. Apparently that's difficult for presidential candidates to do.

BTW where is Trump's plan for paying for IVF and doing mass deportations? Why do you ask of Harris that you don't demand of your own candidate?
Harris made herself a FOOL with that interview. Just an absolute joke to talk about "nice lawns",,, how do you think those in the projects felt? They want nice lawns but can't afford meat.

Vice President Kamala Harris was criticized Friday for a lengthy response about her "middle-class" upbringing that spoke about people's pride in their lawns but did little to address a question about her economic policies.

In her first solo sit-down TV interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris was asked by Philadelphia's 6 ABC anchor Brian Taff about what "specific" plans she has to bring down prices for Americans.

"Well, I'll start with this. I grew up a middle-class kid," Harris responded. "My mother raised my sister and me. She worked very hard. She was able to finally save up enough money to buy our first house when I was a teenager.

"I grew up in a community of hard-working people, you know, construction workers and nurses and teachers. And I try to explain to some people who may not have had the same experience. You know, a lot of people will relate to this."

"You know, I grew up in a neighborhood of folks who were very proud of their lawn," she continued. "And I was raised to believe and to know that all people deserve dignity, and that we as Americans have a beautiful character. You know, we have ambitions and aspirations and dreams, but not everyone necessarily has access to the resources that can help them fuel those dreams and ambitions.

"So when I talk about building an opportunity economy, it is very much with the mind of investing in the ambitions and aspirations and the incredible work ethic of the American people and creating opportunity for people, for example, to start a small business."
OK, a non-specific answer. Never very satisfying. Overall, though, she has shown some specifics around her Opportunity Economy.

Her answer was still remarkably more coherent and complete than Trump's answer to the Economic Club of New York on what he would do about child care....

Tell them to eat rice and beans instead.

I'm sure you have solid evidence.
I'm sure I do.

On July 15, 2008, a bubble-bursting sell-off began after remarks by President Bush the previous day that the ban on oil drilling would be lifted.[39] This precipitated an $8 drop, the biggest since the first US-Iraq war. By the end of the week, crude oil fell 11% to $128, also affected by easing of tensions between the US and Iran.[40] By August 13, prices had fallen to $113 a barrel.[41] By the middle of September, oil price fell below $100 for the first time in over six months,[42] falling below $92 in the aftermath of the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy.[43]

I'm sure I do.

So an example from 16 years ago during a war in the middle east where much of the world's oil came from? Fairly unique conditions that are rarely met in our modern world. I guess if we go to war again in the ME perhaps we can reproduce the same environment.

The Harris inflation reduction act--everyone water their lawns.

That's an example of a very profound impact that happened overnight, like I said. No "state operated energy companies" required.

Even those of us who want Harris to win must, imo, admit this was a pretty weak replay to serious question.
I seem to recall the lead-in to this question was something along the lines of "We need for you to tell us something about yourself...." And then she did... and the MAGAs went batshit crazy.

Regardless of what the MAGAs can cherrypick, Harris is a fairly normal American politician in the sense that she respects the Constitution and the democratic process. She's plenty smart and together. And she's running against an incompetent toxic narcissistic FASCIST who accepts the word of Putin over the United States intelligence community? -- someone who would go far in utterly destroying this country? WTF? There is NO WAY This ****in' Guy should be the one ANYBODY votes for. The polls showing Harris's lead should be about 95%-5%. Otherwise, something is seriously wrong here.

um, no, that would not cause deflation, a general decline in all price levels. Depressions/bad recessions bring down overall price levels.

I'll give you "an example", but know that it occurred under an global environment of oil supply uncertainty (Iraq war). So it was a big change for the current conditions. Are you expecting another ME war beyond Israel/Hamas which doesn't threaten world oil supply? So it's a very rare example.

Reminds me very much of the mindset of Bill Clinton, in building an economy based on progressive principals, creating Empowerment Zones and Enterprise Communities. He presided over historic economic growth. He raised taxes on the wealthy, and cut military spending. All this deserves a second look. Not quite sure why Fox News can't understand her statement.

Trump said he's been a leader on fertilization. Brings all sorts of questions to the fore...

Bret Baier had just begun to receive clips of the new Harris interview toward the end his show yesterday and this question was the clip he had. The look on his face was hysterical when the question and answer concluded!
Hmmm, wonder if he found it as strange as immigrants eating people's pets?

The look on Rachel Maddow's face whenever Trump speaks is also hysterical.

you might want to see this..FYI
Mark Penn hahahahaha...

Because they fact checked Trump on his claims he won the 2020 election, cats and dogs are being eaten in Ohio by immigrants, and that some states allow you to kill your baby after they are born. Okay, the fact that they had to do that with a major party's candidate for president is what is an embarrassment. The entire world, literally the entire world is laughing at Trump and his supporters, yet y'all think you got Harris because she dodged a question in an interview. Imagine a politician doing that. Meanwhile, your guy is peddling insane absurdities. He is so pathetic, he got baited into talking about his crowd sizes in a debate and using an autocrat as a character witness. The whole world is laughing at y'all.

here is some honesty, the only way a POTUS could bring down prices, ie deflation, is by causing a very bad recession.
And the fact that Deflation is impractical should make us all the more leery of Inflation, which is Permanent.

I know how you can make homes LESS affordable:

Require each home to have thousands of dollars of EV charging equipment, although the entry level people can't afford EVs.

Invite millions more people into the country to compete for those homes, which need Land, which they are not making any more of, the last I checked.

And the fact that Deflation is impractical should make us all the more leery of Inflation, which is Permanent.
However, it is relative to wages. Buying power is a better measure.
Recession is something we all need to be leery of. Three months out of work would ruin many families... ✌️
