Handgun freeze in Canada and five-round limit on magazines

Wow, everyone wants to move to Canada all of a sudden.

We don’t care what the US thinks except we care what the US thinks.

An interesting story. There are a number of possible things that could happen between the submission of the bill and its final adoption and enforcement. This poor old country mouse will put it on the back burner of the stove for now.

Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . 'n un-shot.

Yep.

I think relying on the cops in most cases is fine. But there is no reason someone should have to rely on them to defend themselves/others in their home.
When seconds count the police are minutes away. Secondly, police are not legally bound to come to our aid.

You are projecting American talking points onto Canada, which is silly to say the least.

When are you hosers rioting in the streets?

Edit: Is “hoser” still a thing up there?

I wonder if that clown PM up there realizes he is helping the pro gun side down here with his silly anti gun bed wetting?
Other countries don’t care about the United States like you care about them

While I like the idea of sensible gun controls, this seems a bit extreme. I do agree with the red-flag oriented proposals but a 5 round limit seems a bit much.

i thought a real country made some kind of bold move. Then I saw it was Canada.

Why would you need more than 5 rounds?

Canada actually has a recent firearm problem, like in the US, but not as large:

In the US, the murder rate is 8 per 100.000 - so 4x higher than in Canada - and 80% of murders in the US are committed by firearm vs. 37% in Canada.

Here in Austria, the murder rate was 0.5 per 100.000 (= 4x lower than in Canada and 16x ! lower than in the US) and only 10% of murders were committed by firearm ...
Take a guess at what country those guns are coming from.

I doubt he cares, Canadians do not want follow the US in this regard. The Prime Minister of Canada should not be guided by how his actions will be seen in the US, that is nor his job.

High risk?
You said the same reason police do, to protect themselves during high-risk operations like for example raiding a home with multiple suspects or stopping a group of suspects involved in a armed robbery. You are doing that everyday as a regular private citizen and need more than 5 rounds? Even if self-defense was a valid reason to own a gun in Canada why do you need more than 5 rounds? You planning on missing with them?

How often do armed break ins in homes, while someone is home, happen?
