George Bush just doesn't get it. The American people sent an extremely loud message to him that it is time to begin to get out of Iraq. The generals on the ground are telling him that increasing troop levels in Iraq is likely to have a negative effect on things. The Iraqi people are telling us that they don't want us there anymore and yet GWB decides in his wisdom of wisdom that the answer to Rumsfield's ill-conceived war is to send in more troops.

It reminds me of compulsive gamblers. They always think that if they just bet another $100 they might win back the 20k that they have lost and so they just keep spending more and more money going further and further into debt.

I seriously believe that GWB is in soooooo far over his head. He was and will never be a leader.....he's a "decider" and thats about it.

I hope that the Democratic leadership has the spine to stand up and say enough is enough....I am not hopeful though because the democratic party of the 90's and the new century have time and again shown that they are too afraid to stand up to these neocons and fight for what is right.

GWB is so arrogant that he refuses to listen to the people of this country, he refuses to listen to the generals on the ground. In short....he just doesn't get it.....and American soldiers keep paying the price with their lives. How many more will die before this man understands?

there were never enough troops in the first place. Sending more now, especially now, won't help.

I think you're the one who doesn't get it. The Democratic leadership is not the Commander in Chief. The President is. Here's an idea. Go to the polls in 2008. Until then, you're partisan jealousy is laughable.

However, what you fail to realize CA is that we don't (at least for now) live in a dictatorship (close....but not yet) in which the Commander in Chief makes all the decisions. I know that you Bushies like to think so, but George is not King and is not all-powerful. Nice try though.

I know you weren't talking to me but I just can't help but respond. Jealous of WHAT!?!?
The fact the Democrats didn't have the great, fantastic idea of starting a needless war that America is having a hell of a time ending?? Is that what your talking about. No dude, your arrogance is laughable. ha ha :rofl

Anyway, With the Democrats in control, King George is going to have to do a lot of listening and compromise if he wants to save whatever (if anything) is left of his legacy and get anything done. It seems a majority of Americans understood that on election night and put some brakes on that maniac in the white house.

I think Bush gets it just fine. What is more at stake here (from his perspective) is his long term legacy and to a lesser extent, that of the Republicans. Iraq is hurting them now, sure. And it will hurt them in '08 if Bush keeps us there. That is one consideration. The other is that if the US pulls out (as it will do at some point) and Iraq collapses into anarchy, or ends up in the radical anti-American Islamist camp, this collasal mistake will be a done deal, shown without doubt as the worst US foreign policy maneuver over the last 100 years or ever. It will be a permanent black mark on Bush's presidency.

That is why his strategy is to stay the course. As we have continued to see for the last 3 years, regardless of the evidence, consensus opinion of experts, advise of military leaders, or the mandate of voters, or the actual situation in Iraq, Bush will stay the course. Why? Because when a Democrat takes power in '08, and we finally pull out of Iraq, then the Bushies and neocons can point their finger at the Dems and say it was all *their* fault. Same thing as has been going on with the Vietnam war for 30 years.

The fact that the people want us our to Iraq, the experts say our strategy needs to be changed, the Iraqis want us out, and that we should get out, is of secondary importance to political issues -- and pride.
