Gore says no to 'Climate Czar' role

Washington Times - Gore says no to 'Climate Czar' role

President-elect Barack Obama's transition team is flirting with creating a White House "Climate Czar," but climate change crusader Al Gore says he doesn't want the job.

The Obama team declined to comment on such a post, even as environmentalists and power industry executives say it's being widely discussed inside the transition offices as a way to spur a clean energy industry, which Mr. Obama has promised will ween the U.S. from foreign oil and create millions of "green jobs."

So how many "czar's" does Obama want. What is the purpose of all of this czar business. What do you think of the "Czar" role?

"Ween"?

Anyway, the whole idea of the "czar" concept is ridiculous.

The title of "czar" as a person of high authority in American government has been around for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty sure the first example I heard was "drug czar." I'm pretty curious when Americans first started using it, too.

What's the difference between a czar and a cabinet secretary?

Authority I imagine.

I love how Gore and Obama have this opinion of Kyoto now that developing countries like China have to take part.

But when Bush said that exact same thing he became the most evil person on the face of the earth. :(

Gore could've worn his Nobel Prize medal while he was csarring around.

What does the 'czar' title even mean? What is the official designation?

Wikipedia defines a secretary as a policy adviser to the president while still having policy-making roles in his particular department (sort of paraphrased) while a "drug czar" (simply looking up "czar" is useless) is the "name for the person who directs drug-control policies in the United States."

They kind of sound the same to me. Obviously there's got to be a difference else I suspect a new cabinet department would be created.

When the hell did more government become the solution?
