"In the early hours of Thursday morning, while much of the country slept or was waking up, House Republicans rammed through a sweeping multi-trillion-dollar domestic policy package that slashes Medicaid, restricts food assistance, and — in a stunning escalation — bans federally funded health care for transgender people of all ages. The legislation, dubbed the “big, beautiful bill” by President Donald Trump and shepherded by Speaker Mike Johnson, passed the House on a razor-thin 215-214 vote. Two Republicans, Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Warren Davidson of Ohio voted with all Democrats to oppose it. Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland, the Freedom Caucus chair, voted present.

And buried deep in a manager’s amendment added just hours before the vote were two provisions aimed squarely at transgender Americans. One strips all Medicaid and CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program) funding for gender-affirming care, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries, not just for youth but for trans people of any age. A second bans coverage for those same services under the Affordable Care Act by excluding them from the definition of “essential health benefits.”"

By supporting their attacks on transgenders using bathrooms and playing sports you give them license to destroy their lives.

Now, lets get on with those immigrant prisons.

Sorry, I have to agree with this.

MAGA is all in on controlling sexuality. No constitutional right for women to control their own bodies. No medical support for transgenders.

well, at least you're sorry.
I have long held the belief, before Donny two doll made trans a political thing that no plastic surgeries should be paid in any way but out of pocket except in cases of natural deformity or accidents.

I have always thought it very wrong, that doctors waste time, money and resource on people like Kristi Nome.

Kriste Nome isn't transgender.

Do the Repubs have time to do anything other than regulate women's genitals and give tax cuts to the rich??

It's a bill promoted by Republican assholes, so it's no surprise that their bigoted TV channel is reflected in it.

Eh we should have a healthy debate on this point but its a treatment that can possibly help with issues of suicidal ideation and the distress of gender dysphoria. While i think its important to assess if such treatment is necessary, im not so sure it can be compared to elective plastic surgery.

Do US taxpayers want to pay for 'gender affirming care'? Such supposed care is not publicly funded in the UK, where I pay most of my taxes.

The US isn't a democracy. They arent asking for their religious approval. Maybe the bigots want to strip AIDS medication funding as well.

It is publicly funded by the NHS.

Gender affirming care is treatment that in many cases saves lives.
This decision is purely politically vindictive because none of this care is medically questionable in effectiveness.

Great. Then their private insurance can pay for it. There is no reason that the taxpayers should.

Well, I guess Americans who are transgenders will have no choice but to emigrate to a country that is not intent on destroying their lives.

Yeah, I'm serious. What option do they have?

I do not want to pay for elective surgery of any kind and that is what this is.
There is no danger to a life that needs elective surgery.

I have nothing against private insurance or self insurance paying however I have little respect for doctors who use medical resources for all plastic surgeries.
