Planned Parenthood and Obamacare are probably the two things the GOP hates most. House Republicans are targeting both this week with an obscure procedural move that could finally advance opposition bills to President Barack Obama's desk.

The procedure is called budget reconciliation, and legislation advanced that way cannot be filibustered in the Senate, is subject only to limited amendments and needs only simple majority votes to pass, according to House and Senate rules.

It would then be up to Obama to veto the measures, which he would be all but certain to do. But the process would move two cherished GOP goals through the Senate, pushing them further than they've ever gotten before.

I find it ironic that Republicans are relying on the same procedural process used to pass Obamacare (a tactic that they denounced as "unconstitutional" and "forcing it down our throats") to try and defund Obamacare.

I also hope that the conservatives in the House and Senate (and in the general public) can feel good about FINALLY getting something done...by passing a pointless piece of legislation and making Obama go through the STRENUOUS process of signing along the Veto line.

Nice dramatic article on Huffpo.

Ryan's legislation targets the ACA by ordering the repeal of several key parts of the law, including the mandate for people to purchase health care, the cost-controlling Independent Payment Advisory Board, a tax on medical devices, and the so-called "Cadillac plan" tax on high-cost health insurance.

OMG! It's an assault on Cadillac plan taxes! Everyone grab your guns! Protect yourselves! We need anarchy! This shall not happen!

The last line of the article:

Obama could be forced to uncap his veto pen as soon as October.

Wow.

Republicans are fast becoming irrelevant if this is all they have to get elected with.

Well, ObamaCare has been a assault on this Country for 5 years now

It should be repealed and ASAP

Sold as a " free market " solution its really just the Government mandating the purchase of a Governemt created product sold under false pretenses

It's a disastrous piece of legislation and theres no " fixing it _

Interesting tactic. Call the article dramatic and then dramatically recharacterize the facts of the article into a something that seems appealing to everyone.

That was a direct quote from the article. The very dramatic article. OMG the assault!

Exactly. A red line in the sand Obama will actually stand behind. Amazing. We now know who the real enemy is. It's the American political majority in congress.

If the Republican party thinks this is a victory, they are shooting themselves in the head, not the foot.

Right now, every member of that congress should be asking the question 'what is the most important issue in the minds of the voter'? I don't have to live there, hear or see any news casts to know that it is NOT a moral victory over Obamacare, and forcing yet another head-to-head with "enemies" Obama. The country is tired of that ****, which is why a loose cannon like Trump can be leading in the polls.

To the guy who isn't working, the woman who doesn't make enough, the family that lost their home, "Obamacare" is a slogan, they want to be able to put food on their families' plates. If it were me, would be sending him a bill about the legal and rapid return of illegal aliens to veto, a bill to cut spending in that area, increase enforcement etc. Make it jobs issue.

From what I have seen from this party since 1996, I think you could run a lamp post and beat them.

Ryan is "targeting". Uh oh. It's a lynch mob. I bet they already have the rope. Obama will be forced to veto this crap before they find a tree.

I'd rather they spend their time doing that than spending my money.

And they don't wait until they have a Republican president in the White House, why again? Could it be that the real goal is not to overturn Obamacare and end Planned Parenthood, but to force Obama to veto a bill so that they can rant about it and gain political points?

Could be. Sounds like business as usual to me.

Ironically enough, they ARE spending your money....doing pointless things. I would just prefer that they try and accomplish something while they spend the money.

It's a full on assault, I tell you. I've got my pitchfork ready. I'm really anxious that my Cadillac plan tax not be disturbed.

They aren't spending much. Accomplishing something involves serious spending. Bad idea.

Or it could be that they know their constituents actually want some of these parts of the ACA repealed and want no more federal funds to go to Planned Parenthood and instead want those funds to go to other healthcare providers to assist the poor, and they're doing the jobs they were elected to do. Imagine that?

It's not a victory or anything close to meaningful. It's symbolic at a time when we need substance. But I also find the left's characterization hilarious. Yes, it has been a long time since I've seen the GOP do anything politically astute and tactically sound on the big stage. They've been mangling their messages so badly for so long that the left finds it easy to define nearly everything. Hopefully we'll get over Trump shortly. I'd be worried except that it's very early yet. As Trump gets pushed for details I expect enthusiasm for him will dim.

The full on nature of it is troubling, at the very least. If it wasn't for the veto, we'd be in deep do-do.

Of course, they could've and should've done this a year ago. Now, now that Boehner is suddenly deposed, they've found the will. This is some good theater here.

The republicans are alienating moderates these days.. Hell, I've seen people label boehner as a progressive democrat. :lamo

Paul Ryan may be more powerful now that Boehner is leaving.

My Congressman is a Republican. I talk to his office once a month. Unlike the other sheeple, I don't want to see all parts of Obamacare stand. I'm fine with them making tweaks. That's what good business people do to plans. Apparently we're all supposed to bob our heads and thank Obama for being so smart!

I'd like to see them start over on health insurance, but that's a ways off yet. In the interim, anything that can be done to make it less obtrusive and more affordable should be on the table. Screw Obama. I'd rather that asshole be busy trying to second guess them and veto everything than dreaming up something else to do.

The big difference is, the majority have always wanted Obamacare to be gone...to never have been forced down our throats in the first place.

Another big difference is, Republicans have never denounced reconciliation as "unconstitutional"...but as that tactic the Democrats used to force Obamacare down our throats.

But hey...sometimes you have to use their own tactics against them...and then laugh when the Democrats whine and cry.

President Obama? That asshole?

I expect to see your fellow conservatives swoop down on this post and criticize YOU for this kind of hate and language when describing the POTUS. So many of them were upset when Walker dropped out and people weren't being nice to him. I expect the same criticism here and from the same people.

I'm waiting.

Anyway:

Calling an asshole an asshole is not hatred. Sometimes assholes become presidents. That doesn't mean they aren't assholes.
