Congress should extend payroll tax cut - Opinion

This article has a few weeks of age but can someone tell me that inaction in congress will not result in a tax hike? If so The Republican controlled house will go against the Norquist Pledge and not allowing any taxes be raised under any circumstances.

This isn't the only article out there stating this, but this on will work to get the thread going.

Is this true that if no deal is met through the Super Committee then automatic payroll tax hikes will take place when this expires, just as if the temporary Bush tax cuts were to expire it to would be viewed as a tax hike?

Totally untrue. The payroll tax cut can be extended by congress and probably will be.

But this would take action, right? I believe that inaction would result in breaking the Norquist Pledge, resulting in raising taxes.

You are correct that would break the pledge. I can't believe they will raise taxes.

By Grover's logic, letting a portion or all of the bush tax cuts expire wouldn't be a tax hike either.

The argument made against payroll taxes is that they aren't really taxes. The only tax we should concern ourselves is the one rich people have to pay. The other taxes, well, those mostly affect little people.
