Any candidate who wants to take part in the GOP’s first primary debate in Milwaukee later this year will have to sign a pledge promising to support whoever wins the nomination, Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel said Sunday.
“We’re saying you’re not going to get on the debate stage unless you make this pledge,” McDaniel said during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.”
McDaniel, who recently won her fourth term as RNC chair after a contentious battle against Harmeet Dhillon, said that Republican voters are tired of “infighting” within the party, and “want to see us come together.”

I have no idea what to make of this.

But, I'm open to ideas . . .

This is aimed at Trump. Plain and simple.

The thing is, though, Trump doesn't need any debates. He has the backing of the Republican rank and file. If the debates are held without Trump, the rank and file will simply ignore the debates.

On the other hand, the Trump hating media and the GOP Elites will make a big deal about it.

It's all about the narrative.

The bolded was my first thought. But I didn't entertain that the RNC would go up against Trump, at least not until push-came to shove (i.e. he was losing the primary).

If trump wants to join the other candidates on the debate stage, he will sign the pledge, then ignore it if he not is the nominee. The pledge is a meaningless piece of paper to trump.

And that is exactly why I said "this shit again?"

They are asking for a worthless promise from a pathological liar. He'll be as happy to break it as to give it.

Of course, the GOP Elites will go against Trump. He's their worst nightmare.

If he wins the Republican primary, they will have to cooperate with the rest of the Dems and Trump haters again to prevent him from winning. (Election Fraud)

But if he loses the primary, then it doesn't matter to them if the next guy in line (DeSantis) wins the election or not...the GOP Elites STILL retain their donor and lobbyist money sources.

They are worried that Trump can hold them hostage by splitting the ticket and run independent.

Yeah, but who's going to get Trump to sign it, and better yet - who will enforce it and how?

Knowing Trump he will just broadcast some speech or some such if he isn’t invited to the debate.

I don't see Trump signing anything.
This basically works to keep out candidates with integrity and who are worried about their image if caught breaking their word. With Trump if he wants an excuse not to enter the debate, this will supply it. If Trump wants in the debate, its not going to worry him one bit to sign and renig two weeks later. Matter of fact, I would not be surprised if he says he's going to sign the pledge to enter, but he reserves the right to change his mind later. It unenforcable. What are they doing to do, if he changes his mind and refuses to endorse?

It's obvious they don't want him. I didn't think they'd have the guts to go against him.

I mean maybe they can sue him, but...lololol

He will probably sign the pledge and then tell the GOP to get ****ed afterward. I'm not even sure this is completely aimed at Trump, but maybe more so convincing potential challengers that it's okay to run against him b/c he won't detonate the party if he loses.

I think the bolded is the best the GOP will get. But more likely, I just don't think he'll do it at all.

I may have this wrong, but I keep getting a sub-loyalty Pledge that might be stuck in one's mind.
"The beatings vill continue until morale improves!!!"

Never heard of it, but I like it!

Trump will sign it and be held to what standard? Basically, there’s not too much they can do to shut him down if he wants to bail.

Exactly, which is why my conspiracy minded brain believes it's not entirely aimed at Trump, but aimed at challengers who may be too chickenshit to join the fray at the moment b/c they're worried they could win the nomination and then have Trump blow it all up.

If they're smart, they'll know that Trump's signature on a contract is worth...pet food.
