Yep, you like to out Republicans, but not Democrats.
this is why i'm strongly against outing politicians- even those that fall within the so called "barney frank rule".
if your standard for outing politicians is whether or not they're hostile towards gays then you're submitting them to whatever arbitrary definition of "hostile towards gays" that anyone who has access to the media has. I think that could easily result in a gay witch hunt.
I think people like Craig and Ted Haggard are disgusting people and If I ever met either of them I'd probably spit in their face, but outing them is ultimately bad for the gay community.
I honestly disagree with you on this. I believe that outing politicians who say one thing while doing another is a good thing for the gay community. However, since I am straight, I will admit that your opinion might carry more weight than mine.
I really want to agree with Dan here, but just cannot do it. At some point, I think every one, even politicians, should be accorded a certain amount of privacy, and who they sleep with falls within that amount of privacy. I just do not care if a politician is gay, or has an affair, or hosts wild orgies. We owe them that little bit of respect for their private lives.
Under Crist's leadership, Florida is the only state with an outright ban on gay adoption. Crist has said he opposes any change to the ban in Florida, he and other Republican leaders hold the position that a "traditional family provides the best environment for children".
While running for governor in 2006, Crist stated that gay civil unions were "fine," but did not support gay marriage.
On November 4, 2008, Florida voters approved Florida Amendment 2 (2008) by a margin of 62%-38%; an amendment which defines marriage as "the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife". Crist stated he did not favor Republican Party funds being spent on passing the ban, but did lend his name to groups working in favor of the amendment.
Prior to the vote, Crist was asked where he stood on the amendment and he stated: "I'll support it, I'll vote for it, move on... It's not top-tier for me, put it that way."
My issue with your issue of Hypocracy.
Was Craig or Haggard attempting to get married to another man? If not, how was them being against gay marriage hypocritical?
Did Craig or Haggard attempt to file complaint with a job because they were descriminated against because they were homosexual? If not, how was them being against such legislation hypocritical?
Did Craig or Haggard believe that their homosexuality was a good thing that they were proud of and wasn't "sinful" or "wrong"? If not, how was them stating they believe that to be the case hypocritical?
Unless you're telling me ALL homosexuals MUST be for ALL homosexual rights and think that ALL homosexuality is COMPLETELY good than I don't understand what exactly they did that was hypocritical.
I never got the "hypocritical thing". I could understand the hypocritical thing if they were going "ALL GAYS SHOULD BE KILLED!" and then if it started happening they didn't kill themselves...but I didn't see them trying to do the things they were arguing against. I could very easily see a man like Haggard being a hugely self depricating person, someone performing actions that feel natural to his body but wholey unnatural to his mind. It is like some pedophiles or those that do incest who are disgusted by their actions and know its wrong but yet keep doing it. And, if that's the case, why is he a hypocrite for saying that he believes homosexuality to be wrong and evil if he thinks that the homosexual tendancies within himself are wrong and evil.
I'm not saying I agree with all or even any of their stances, but I have never gotten the hypocritical argument here. This is like saying we shouldn't listen to any politician about their stances on murder or theft because they have gotten speeding tickets before or shop lifted something as a kid or had smokedp ot once or done some version of a minor crime at some point in their life.
Frankly, I'm against forcefully outing ANYONE. I think its one of the lowest thing someone can do and I think its frankly abhorrent for anyone that claims to stand for personal rights and freedom to be in favor of people forcefully "exposing" people on a mass stage over something these people personally do not want to have made public and is frankly no ones ****ing business.
It's not like Larry Craig where he is doing it in PUBLIC bathrooms.
Live by the sword. Die by the sword. :duel

If he were not an elected official I would say he deserves his privacy. But, as a Governor, and possibly Senator, with the power to enact, or at least influence, legislation, his constituents deserve to know the truth. I would feel the same if he were a Democrat.
I just want YOU to be fair-minded.Do your trolling in another thread. I am not in the mood for it today.
Charlie Crist? Gay? That's what is going to appear in the film "Outrage", which will be released and running in Landmark Theatres all across the US tomorrow.
People here know me pretty well as someone who takes delight in seeing hypocritical buttheads in the Republican party outed. But Charlie Crist? This guy is not one of the moral pillars of society who attempts to tell everybody else how to live. He is a pretty tolerant guy.
And this is where I draw the line. If Crist were being a hypocritical asshole, I would be laughing my ass off over this. However, he is not, and deserves to be left alone. Charlie Crist is not a Larry Craig, and IMHO, the movement to out as many secretly gay Republicans as possible has gone too far.
There is a time for the outing of hypocritical politicians. It is when their own behavior is the opposite of the "moral code" they attempt to force on others. This is not one of those times. Crist should have been left alone. Instead, his political career is going to be ruined, and for what? Nothing. Nothing at all.
You may be surprised that I am posting this, since I am known for doing a lot of gloating when a hypocritical politician is outed, especially a secretly gay politician who engages in gay bashing. I am not gloating here. In fact, I am quite angry. Since Crist was not attempting to force other people to live to certain standards, his own homosexuality is nobody's business but his own.
Sometimes I find that people who out hypocritical politicians are assholes as big as the hypocritical politicians they are outing.

I'm kind of torn on this. On one hand, I understand that politician should be outed, or a t least politically scathed, if he is hypocritical about gay marriage; however, I don't know if their privacy should be invaded to do it. It's not like Larry Craig where he is doing it in PUBLIC bathrooms. Crist, IF HE HAS HAD GAY RELATIONS at all, has to my knowledge, done that in the privacy of his bedroom; Therefore, why should anyone know about that, EVEN IF he is hypocritical?
Because, if we can invade politicians' privacy in the name of finding hypocrisy, then who is next? Who else can have their privacy invaded just because someone SUPPOSES that another someone is a hypocrit?
Of course he is gay..... worst kept secret evah. Not that it matters really, unless he is some how a hypocrite...

Of all the current republicans out there, Crist is one of the more tolerable ones. But I find it hard to find sympathy for any gay man (if this is true) who aligns himself with a party that has no problem with coming right out and saying gay people are going to destroy civilization, some sort of danger to society and all the other crap conservative Reps spout. Even though he is a decent guy, you can make an aliance with the devil and not expect to get burned.
