I saw this article proclaiming a GOP curse to be the reason our country is always thrust into recession by GOP presidents. Oh, how Americans love to think magically, and rather than admit that the GOP elitists, who shamelessly preach their unchecked growth religion, present a recurring evidence of their incompetence, we are forced to excuse their fiscal recklessness as black magic.

How many great depressions must they create before we stop drinking the kool aid? To my dismay, I think it's clear that conservative fiscal credulity is something Republicans can rely upon consistently. Invoking the mantra of the magical free market, the high priests of the GOP have found their base to be reliably, wilfully ignorant. Even as the cycle of massive tax cuts and recession beat up this nations middle class, again and again, the GOP base keep coming back for more.

Einstein said the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result. Clearly, there is a mania here, on the right, that can't be explained otherwise. It is accompanied by a long-standing set of myths about liberals that, as it turns out, are the most glaringly ugly form of projection. No more shall the conservative claim of liberal fiscal irresponsibility be taken as anything but a persistent, laughably ignorant delusion, contradicted by the facts.

I am proud to say I've never voted for a Republican president and, most likely, never will. I've been around long enough to see the writing on the wall. Until the GOP base, most of whom are no more wealthy than myself, admit they have a problem, not just with the past but with their present philosophy, this "curse" will go on and on and on. You don't have to be an Einstein to see that this tale ends in misery for the poor. Therefore, let that phrase "misery for the poor" be the unspoken subtext of everything they say. It can't be denied any longer.

But this one is different. This one is the People's Republican. This one represents the triumph of the proletariat over the intelligentsia. To think otherwise is counter-revolutionary.

My advice to you is to not place all that much importance on Wall Street.

We have been in a Wall Street-centric economy for decades, but that's now changing...thanks to Trump. He is shifting us away from Wall Street to Main Street. If you keep thinking "Wall Street", you will end up not understanding what's actually happening with our economy. You'll be constantly confused about why things are going good...and Wall Street isn't.

If the stock market is up, you guys say praise Trump for making it so. When the stock market is down, you say he's taking wealth away from Wallstreet and giving it to Mainstreet. Man, you've got that wrapped up nice and tight.

I haven't said anything about "taking wealth away from Wallstreet and giving it to Mainstreet". I'm talking about shifting our "economy" away from being focused on Wall Street to being focused on Main Street.

Those who want to invest in Wall Street will still be able to do so, but there will also be MORE investment in Main Street. The notion of Wall Street being the indicator of the health of our economy is becoming a failed notion. The health of our economy, thanks to the actions of the Trump administrations, is being increasingly indicated by Main Street.

Increases in manufacturing, wages, employment, etc, is now more important than how much money investors are making on Wall Street.

Meanwhile CA burns to the ground and leftists ignore it as it proves their ideas to be total failures.

I don't give a **** about Wall street except that its failure does, eventually, correlate with main street Americans being unemployed much more than its success correlates with increased prosperity for average working people. I'm not confused, I'm enraged that this cyclical mismanagement of the American economy is allowed to happen. Clearly, what you mean by our economy "shifting away from Wall Street" is shifting away from stock market games to private equity games, right? Wall Street has already been invalidated as a route to wealth for the common man because the oligarchs have already invented machines that trade so fast that they are destroying even the impression of fairness in opportunity. A shift toward private equity removes even the charade of it being America-centric or available to the poor.

Putting lipstick on the GOP pig does not make it a ****ing enigma, we've been here before. Like I said, whether you want to pretend that Trump is the new, improved model, the same actions achieve the same results they always have, even in a different name. What amazes me the most is the tenacious wishful thinking of those on the right who should also know better.

I think you'd be wise to go on youtube and listen to some lectures my Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell. That might provide you with more knowledge on the topic of recessions and free markets and the economy.

California wasn't set ablaze by an idea. Liberal economics does not produce an exothermic reaction except in the diapers of GOP jihadis who don't care about the facts, only their political religion.

While we're on the subject of natural disasters, I hope you understand how utterly useless GOP leaders have been in the recovery of New Orleans, Puerto Rico, Florida or whatever. If you want to talk about failures, consider the moral, leadership and organizational failures that are represented by the GOP at every turn. They have proven that their constituents are incapable of demanding more and apathetic to results.

We in California are doing ok, thank you, would do better if we built more dense housing in some places. The big burning problem seems to be caused in part by climate change, which we do our best to deal with, despite GOP hostility to science. But all in all it’s still a great place to live. Our problems are like national ones, in some cases more extreme, such as the gap between the wealthy and the poor, but we do our best to address those. A healthier GOP would probably help, but they keep blowing it with our fastest growing demographic, since Pete Wilson’s time.
