GOP Attack on Education

Then get out, start your own teaching company and stop complaining that you have it bad.
You no longer get to mug the taxpayer because you think life is not fair. Life is not fair.
I think you're mixing complaining up with explaining. Pointing out the difficulties and peculiarities of a job (particularly in response to someone who insists they don't exist) does not equal complaining. The fact that she pointed out that your job couldn't just be done by anybody either should have been a clue that this was an explanation rather than a complaint. People can love their jobs while also recognizing their difficulty.

Sounds like fiscal responsibility to me!

Which is why I'm asking ElCid what it is that he's so busy with at night. I'm curious.

Ha, ha. Could I say ANYTHING that would change your mind? I doubt it.:fueltofir

You need to feel the pain of hateful Administration, parents and kids. That might wake you up.

Um....I have had a taste of really awful admin (not hateful, just lazy), really mean parents who don't give a flying crap and kids as well.

I am honestly asking because I can't think of what you'd need to do every single night at home for your job.

Fine. It is still just a job.

I teach, daily, 140 kids. If I did HALF of what my insane District/Campus demands, I would never sleep.

You can quit. There are plenty of good jobs out there for everyone to seek. The one term president Obama and members of his regime keep telling me that this is so. So it must be.

I'm working hard to arrive at your vantage-point, 'Bama. In fact, THIS year will be first, during which I will remind myself frequently that my job is just that -- a job. My idealism is packed away somewhere in the attic, for good.

I don't quit. I get even.

That's what I'm asking....what do they demand? And what is the half that you do?

They demand the impossible, to cover their shiney butts. At any moment, ANY and EVERY teacher on campus is wildly out of compliance with their myriad rules, regulations, policies, directives, etc., etc. It's impossible to be in full compliance - physically impossible. It's a management style called, "Gotchya." Whenever they want to 'get you', they 'gotchya'. An Army JAG officer once told us, during Staff Officer training, "Show me the soldier, and I'll tell you what regulation he has broken." That's my world.

Okay, but what is it that you are busy with every night at home?

I work with many really great teachers, both elementary and secondary. Many of them work for a long time after school and others take work home. That's what good teachers do.

Yes, I agree. But it's not a ginormous load of work that takes hours each night. That's all I'm saying.

If you believe it is a calling you would not need to remind us in every post just how hard it is. If it was a calling you would be, well, called.
You are not. So you whine. You complain. You moan. You tell us that you are no longer a devout Republican.

It is just a job. Get another one. You need to.

I have to agree with Mister. If you've got to the point where it's just a paycheck for you, go be a Wal-Mart greeter or something.

I just don't see how you can get everything that should be done, done so quickly. Many of our teachers tutor after school for at least an hour before they even begin work for the next day. The elementary doesn't have that much plan time. They do their own recess duty. I just don't know any good teachers that don't work after school or take work home.

I love my job and have no interest in doing anything else. My point is that it is not an easy job that just anyone could do. I'm not saying it's the only difficult job, I'm just tired of people saying it's easy.

I know you didn't ask me but I'll tell you what I do.

tutor for at least an hour and some days 2
grade papers
write lesson plans
make copies
write lecture notes
parent contact (notify parents of students who are struggling)
fill out paper work required by admin(tutoring logs etc.)
before school - practices for extra curricular activities

Okay. But if you are unhappy then push to privatize. Start your own teaching company. There is money to be made and grateful people ready to spend dollars in exchange for a real education.

I'm not unhappy with the job, I'm unhappy with clueless people who undervalue my profession. I mean really, I have no idea what you do for a living but how would you feel if I said it was an easy job that any monkey could do? Any good job should be more than just a job. Hopefully one would have pride in their work and want to do it to the best of their ability. It's difficult to keep that up while being insulted and told your job is easy and your doing it badly. I know of no other profession that deals with the issues teaching does. Does that make it the hardest job ever, of course not.

Or would could create a new educational system, instead of following one that was constructed during the 18th century. Just sayin.
