I think you're mixing complaining up with explaining. Pointing out the difficulties and peculiarities of a job (particularly in response to someone who insists they don't exist) does not equal complaining. The fact that she pointed out that your job couldn't just be done by anybody either should have been a clue that this was an explanation rather than a complaint. People can love their jobs while also recognizing their difficulty. Then get out, start your own teaching company and stop complaining that you have it bad.
You no longer get to mug the taxpayer because you think life is not fair. Life is not fair.
El Cid your not alone, theres alot of long time republicans that feel just like you do. This new far right Gop is not for them.
Public employees have been vilified by teaparty govs. Walker, Scott, Christie, and others...they are overpaid. Thats not only teachers but all public employees.
If they were just attackind the unions as the very conservatives "CLAIM" I may very well have supported them and understood their reasoning, but they are attacking the workers in every aspect of their employment. The claim public workers are overpaid and Ceo's dont make enough.
While public workers who are middle class are being attacked by new teaparty govs....ryan and company on the federal level wants to inflict more pain on the middle class.
What does Ryan and all the teaparty govs have in common ? While attacking public workers and the middleclass they ALL gave tax cuts to the richest americans and corporations.
Theres more than just you and I El Cid that are not devout republicans anymore....I wont say I wont vote republican. I will say they can no longer depend on my undying support and my vote will depend on the exact same thing the teaparty vote depends on...they want what they want when they want it and they wont compromise...Ok then neither will I.
Which is why I'm asking ElCid what it is that he's so busy with at night. I'm curious.
Probably because people see the teaching profession as having a LOT of vacations (and there are a lot) and great benefits, so they don't see it as being all that difficult. And I agree with them, actually. Most years just fly by .... easy as pie. I can't believe I'm getting paid to do something that is so much fun. Now, of course, there are those years where I want to tear my hair out everyday and cry myself to sleep every night, but those are few and far between.
You need to feel the pain of hateful Administration, parents and kids. That might wake you up.
Ha, ha. Could I say ANYTHING that would change your mind? I doubt it.:fueltofir
Fine. It is still just a job.I think you're mixing complaining up with explaining. I am honestly asking because I can't think of what you'd need to do every single night at home for your job.
I teach, daily, 140 kids. If I did HALF of what my insane District/Campus demands, I would never sleep.

You can quit. There are plenty of good jobs out there for everyone to seek. The one term president Obama and members of his regime keep telling me that this is so. So it must be.

That's what I'm asking....what do they demand? And what is the half that you do?
They demand the impossible, to cover their shiney butts. At any moment, ANY and EVERY teacher on campus is wildly out of compliance with their myriad rules, regulations, policies, directives, etc., etc. It's impossible to be in full compliance - physically impossible. It's a management style called, "Gotchya." Whenever they want to 'get you', they 'gotchya'. An Army JAG officer once told us, during Staff Officer training, "Show me the soldier, and I'll tell you what regulation he has broken." That's my world.
Sorry, but I call BS here. The teachers I know and have worked with mostly get everything done within the school day. There are planning periods, lunch and recess time to get things done.
My experience is elementary school. Grading tests is super quick and setting up for the next day can be done in about 15 minutes. Lesson plans should come easy to write since you just follow what's laid out for you in the basal reading series and other textbooks. Lesson planning would be once a week or once every two weeks. You might have a meeting or two after school, but that's maybe a few times a year.
Now I can see how an English teacher who just had 100 essays turned in would have some work to do, but that wouldn't be every night or even every week. Many schools have Scantron tests where the teachers just have to put the tests into a grading system and it grades it for them. I could see how a high school teacher with 100 non-Scantron tests would have some work to do, but again that wouldn't be every night.
ElCid, are you high school? College? Can you explain what all this work is that you do every night?
I work with many really great teachers, both elementary and secondary. Many of them work for a long time after school and others take work home. That's what good teachers do.
If you believe it is a calling you would not need to remind us in every post just how hard it is. If it was a calling you would be, well, called.I'm working hard to arrive at your vantage-point, 'Bama. In fact, THIS year will be first, during which I will remind myself frequently that my job is just that -- a job. My idealism is packed away somewhere in the attic, for good.
If my co-workers could read your opinions about my school.... LOL!
Actually I work in a horrible school. Our test scores stink, the admins are spineless when it comes to making teachers do what they should be doing, many parents are either too busy with other things to care about their child's education or they're high on meth.
Just because we have a 30 minute planning period and a recess doesn't mean we have a good school. And I can get most everything done for the next day in that 30 minute planning period. If it was taken away, I'd only need that much time at the end of the school day to plan. That would mean I would generally be done everyday by 3:30. Not bad at all, I say.
Then get out, start your own teaching company and stop complaining that you have it bad.

Okay. But if you are unhappy then push to privatize. Start your own teaching company. There is money to be made and grateful people ready to spend dollars in exchange for a real education.I love my job and have no interest in doing anything else. My point is that it is not an easy job that just anyone could do. I'm not saying it's the only difficult job, I'm just tired of people saying it's easy.

LOL. Anyone happy with his job wouldn't care what others thought about it.I'm not unhappy with the job, I'm unhappy with clueless people who undervalue my profession.
