Classic.

The House has advanced a highway funding bill.

House unveils six-year, $325B highway bill | TheHill

but they can only get it passed if they figure out a way to fund the last three years.. and thats the reason they havent been able to do this in the past - the GOP refuses to actually do anything to increase funding, especially doing the obvious - increase the gas tax. Looks like they are just going to kick the future funding to the next Congress, because they are all too cowardly to actually pay for the stuff they want.

When will the GOP accept the fact that stuff isnt free?

and if they were to actually fund it with a gas tax, the progressives would go gaga

you are attacking the middle class and the poor who cant afford the "new gas tax"

nice try

Perhaps they are waiting for a reply from Bernie Sanders, since he figures everything is free.

He does not figure everything should be free. Where did you get that ignorand idea?

Pretty sure he doesn't think everything is free. But you're free to quote the man on it.

So the entire GOP house and Congress is being held powerless due to the might of One Independent from Vermont? Republicans are useless.

Ummm.... I think you have this all mixed up... Other way around. Until recently it has been the unspoken rule to fund this with the gas tax. Its clear as day that the tax needs to be increased. Its essentially a user fee tax and goes directly into the highway trust fund. Ever since the mantra of "government too big, no new taxes, yadda, yadda, yadda" group entered congress did this really hit a major snag.
One way or another the gas tax is either gonna have to be raised or they are going to have to find the funding from someother tax be it increased, or a new tax...

I don't think they are powerless, they did introduce a bill. It seems they are in the process of determining the best method to fund it.

I just suggested that Sanders apparently has clues how to pay for his free stuff, so they might be waiting to see how his magic works before taking concrete action.

LOL. They HAVE determined the best way to fund it. And that way is avoid any responsibility for funding it and kick it to the next Congress!

Because the GOP likes free stuff, and hates taxes that pay for that stuff.

and i have zero issue with them doing so

but i dont think that your take would be the majority take for those from the opposite side of the aisle

it is the perfect set up....more taxes, and they hit the poor and middle class the hardest

i can see and hear it now

It makes it easier if you call it a 'carbon tax', but at-the-pump taxes have been building roads and bridges in this province for decades. When gasoline hit the equivalent of $4 a USG, everyone said the economy would collapse. It has gone beyond $6 USG at times and we're thriving.

Consumption taxes are the fairest form of tax, cost of goods increases are spread across large numbers, while the Escalade hockey moms and Jet setters pay for roads, bridges and public transit.

Sanders does have a plan for paying for free tuition and healthcare and the republicans could learn a lesson from it

It's called "taxes"

They do work, fair tax, like the GST, a consumption tax is the fairest of all. Many do not get that simple fact though.

So I guess they have adopted Sanders plan. ;)

Like those who were conned into voting "no" on the HST referendum. I will never forgive Bill Vander Zalm for that, but really, Campbell should have realized he needed to severely cut income taxes to go along with it.

I believe Republicans have passed tax legislation. You are clearly wrong to imply they are not familiar with the word. You need to correct that.

No idea of the history on that??

Pay attention!! This thread is about the repubs putting forward a funding bill that contains no funding.

They want the govt to do stuff, but they don't want to pay for it. They want stuff for free, which is what you wrongly accuse Sanders of because Sanders has never produced a bill that had no funding.

big surprise. the Republican government in my state is virtually uncontested, and they are more concerned with surpluses than anything else. the roads have turned to ****, though. it's tearing the **** out of my car.

I believe you need to pay attention. I was responding to your post. Perhaps you forgot already.

Please correct your post. It is not accurate.
