The power of cult is strong. Any deviation from the Trump path could lead to thinking for ones self. Like when Kim Jong-il said he shot a 38 under. If anyone in NK was asked, I'm sure they fully believed that he did it.

Ratings for awards shows have tanked in recent years. I'll bet the show's producers knew exactly what Gervais was going to say. They probably went over it with him. They realize it's nuts to alienate half your audience with political drivel. Besides, Gervais was right.
