Awww man. Old home week.
Halfway into the first of 3 episodes. My favorite part so far; they were talking to SHSU students. For those who don’t know, in the middle of town is the Huntsville Unit--aka Walls Unit. Its where they carry out executions (but not where Death Row is amazingly). Favorite place so far is the SHSU student who talked about these horns they blast at count time. Apparently its one when count starts; one when count clears. Then she smiles and says, “If it blows a third time...thats bad I think.” Yeah...count didn’t clear and they’re missing someone. You ain’t getting out of the Walls unit (or any unit really) by going over the fence. You’ve got to smuggle yourself or have someone smuggle you. Chances are if you hear that third horn, the guy isn’t bushwhacking through the piney woods; he’s in the back of a truck or something. But yeah...the idea of having these horns letting everyone in town know it’s count time.... surreal. Thats Texas for you.
