Gloomy landscape for Democrats in midterms as Biden's approval drops to 38% in USA TODAY/Suffolk poll

We have very little reason to conclude that the midterms will be kind to Biden and Democrats, and they have no one but themselves to blame.

New poll out today is indeed gloomy news for Biden and team. This poll was conducted Wednesday-Friday, so we'll see if the infrastructure bill passing the House helps or not. This is a very interesting link, full of specifics, but here is one tidbit that really caught my eye. Lots of buyer's remorse about Biden!

"Nearly half of those surveyed, 46%, say Biden has done a worse job as president than they expected, including 16% of those who voted for him. Independents, by 7-1 (44%-6%), say he's done worse, not better, than they expected

So what?

It's far too early for anyone to be making up any leaning about the Mid-terms. People need to get off of the spin, and invest in actual learning. Most people don't know much of anything about the nation, outside of trying to measure it by their own small environment, and the "personal income structure and its limited framework of exposure". they ignore the principle of "WE" the people.. Is bigger than "I" the person.

People struggle and suffer because they are 'self absorbed and basically simply selfish' rather that having the openness of mind to consider the whole of the nation.

That is nothing more than wishful posting.

Mid terms are never kind to the party that has the presidency

The Democrats should stay the course

Anyone without positive open minded outlook... is themselves a problem both unto themselves and the nation. Gloom and Doom seekers are a penny a dozen!
This forum is full of such.

are the midterms this year or next year?

Closing in on Trump's numbers, lol.
He is indeed and headed toward Trump's lower range (some polls have him right smack in Trump's lower range). Guess who isn't president? Those types of numbers obviously aren't desirable;)
Reading on, I see Callen already beat me to this point.

give it a bit...polls haven't had time to react to the latest good news.

Sure didn't. Got his ass fired for his piss poor performance. Biden might find himself fired if he don't turn this all around.
Dems seem to think turning it around means doubling down and doing more of what people will (and did last week) vote against.

Agreed...what I do like is that those on the left have no problem with calling out their own. No mindless defending of the indefensible.
Kind of like those who think Biden is doing a fine job, giving good speeches, and not experiencing mental deterioration? ;)

100% agreement from me.

Okay, I'll keep watching to see what happens in the next month or so.

Not doing so well on point one right now.....he will never be a great speaker but the mental deterioration is compete BS that causes those who say it to lose all credibility.

No need to change course. It woukdnt change anything with the midterms

Actually, I think you have a bit of a point.
But, one problem is the small majorities. For example, I think it will be quite difficult to get any revised reconciliation bill through the Senate, especially after last Tuesday.
And, if the Dems go too far with not changing course, they could get into a situation of such big GOP majorities in congress that they'd be quite powerless in 24 if they happen to lose the presidency.

We have a long way before 2024. No need to change course for 2 years

Doesn't that almost always happen, the opposite party wins in the mid terms, it happened in 2018, 2014, 2010, 2006, etc. Really after a while you kinda expect it.

Agreed, we'll see if that House passage changes things.
Biden has significant downward momentum in recent months. I think it will be a challenge to regain confidence among all those who have obviously lost so much confidence in him.
I haven't checked GW polls to see how it played out but I well remember a loss of confidence in GW toward the end of his second term and it felt as if it became contagious. I feel like Biden might be in that pattern.
It won't really change much. People are tired of covid and how things are just blah. They are tired of the fighting when it comes to politics as well.

People are just tired..everyone just needs to chill out for awhile honestly

Oh really? So it's bidens fault for the second wave of delta?

Goooooo oooon....this should be hilarious

YEP
if he can get down about 3 more points he might get there ( he may have to work on it )
Trump was at about 35% at this time in his Presidency and you don't hear a word about that from the people on the right
https://news.gallup.com/poll/203198/presidential-approval-ratings-donald-trump.aspx
so Biden still has a more favorable rating then Trump had at the same point in their Presidencies but people on the right don't want to talk about that
all they want to do is keep saying Biden's approval rating are falling look how bad he is.
they don't want to admit Biden still has a higher approval rating then Trump had
Have a nice night

Ipsos has him at 48% approval, Emerson at 41. Even Rasmussen had him at 43.

538 Assigns weighting to polls, its not a true average.

How do we boil down dozens of approval-rating polls into a single number? It’s not a simple average! We use an empirically tested, weighted average that accounts for poll quality and uncertainty. It’s the same methodology we used to calculate Trump’s approval-rating average and similar to the approach we take in our election forecasts and other polling averages; here’s a more detailed explanation.

Read the whole thing, its demonstrates how Nate Silver keeps his thumb on the scale.

How The Mind Gets In Your Way

quote
When it comes to critical thinking, leaders must become aware of how the mind can lead them in the wrong direction. As humans, we have ingrained likes and dislikes. We also have a plethora of beliefs, values, and personal preferences. Therefore, we must be highly aware of our biases. Our success in making important decisions is clearly commensurate with our awareness of ourselves.

Of great importance is how the mind works to protect you. As leaders we must be cognizant of how our mind produces the feeling of “fear” and the mind’s tendency to avoid this negative emotion. Since most decisions contain the element of change, our minds naturally produce feelings of caution. This is because the mind has difficulty anticipating the future.

How the mind works to protect you is great importance. As leaders that cultivate skills in these areas are highly aware of what they must do to minimize the influence of fear and apprehension in decision making. Emotions created by the mind can be minimized by offering the mind important information, data, and plausible scenarios to digest. In essence, we must educate our minds to keep aligned with our need to make a well-informed decision.

Everyone can improve their critical thinking skills by incorporating more data into their decision making process. Identifying what information is an assumption, and challenging these assumptions, leads to better outcomes. Utilization of experts and consultants that have more experience than the team can ensure better decision making. Encouraging continued learning through reading, industry institutes, and conferences is helpful in bringing new data, trends, and information to staff for better decision making. Lastly, using computer technology to aid in decision making will help staff to save time and be better informed regarding the data they need to utilize.

Not relying on Folklore and Confabulated Folklore tales is a good start to help develop critical thinking skills.
And here I thought it was not post bombing propaganda disguised as critical thinking that someone else did. As soon as you start doing your own thinking and weighing negative and positive from both sides of the political aisle it show a great deal more in your posts.

Just stop it. Think about that for a bit before responding.
