Georgia to Execute Man for 1990 Murder of Father in Law

Many of them are so irredeemable that they are not worth feeding. How about those that rape, torture and kill children? Do you think they are redeemable? How about John Gacy? He killed around 30, mostly teens and buried the bodies under his house. How about serial killer cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer?

If a person commits a crime that carries more than 20 years in prison they should be executed. At that point their life is meaningless. They will never be a productive member of society. Therefore they are not redeemable.

I agree that if a person is in custody they have to be fed, and we should not torture them, but we shouldn't be dragging out their lives for no reason either.

It is most definitely a deterrent if carried out in a timely manner. It's much less of a deterrent when our pantywaist criminal justice system often takes as long as three decades to carry out a death sentence, even when there is no doubt whatsoever about guilt. My state last night finally executed a killer who has been on death row for 22 years. Another one waiting has been on death row for nearly 30 years. And he killed more then once. However every time an execution date is scheduled, he gets stays.

What are we arguing here? I am don't have any problem with the death penalty for guys like John Gacy. That was my point, some of these criminals are so irredeemable they are not worth even feeding.

Okay...However it should also apply to someone who kills in the commission of robbing a convenience store or breaking into someones home and killing someone who gets in the way of stealing for one's next heroin fix.

All wrong thinking here.

You can't grasp my statements. haha

Putting someone to death for heinous crimes...is not murder.

I didn't say that. I said it justifies (makes reasonable) the rationalization (the illegitimate validating of something) of murder. As I clearly explained: if the state can kill a helpless and socially harmless (prisoner) for their reasons, why can't I for mine?

The DP is a deterrent for that scumbag that gets it! ;)

No more so, for society (as opposed to voluntary guards and voluntary inmates), than lifetime incarceration. It's no more effective, and it excludes a valuable element of justice (redemption).

Nothing counter productive in offing someone who deserves it, whether it be by a citizen in self defense, a cop or a court.

I explained above how it justifies the rationalization of murder. As the DP clearly does not deter capital crime, that reasoning renders the DP counter-productive.

Some people are totally incorrigible, evil and beyond redemption or rehabilitation. I have met more than my share. Apparently, you haven't met any.

Oh, spare me. That's just scumbag-speak for "me likes vengeance".

I'd like to see public executions return as well as the use of the guillotine. It is swift, final and works every time it's applied!

Public executions had no effect on crime whatsoever. Your sick desire is nothing more than idiotic blood lust.

I don't expect you to understand any of that. I just thought I'd repeat it for those capable of grasping the points and laughing at your pathetic missing of them.

Plenty of people have been released after 20 years and became productive members of society. Some innocents have been released after 20 years and have become productive members of society. Your claim is flat BS.

I haven't been on lately so I apologize for the very late reply and thread resurrection.

Some innocents yes, but after 20 years in prison very very few can acclimate back into society properly. Certainly not "plenty".

Also it is a very small number of people who do 20+ years in prison and are genuinely innocent. Most likely they are in prison for taking or destroying another life and get out after serving 20 or so years. IMO they shouldn't be getting out.

Georgia is set to execute its 9th person this year, a state record and more executions than the state of Texas has conducted this year.

Based on Georgia law, inmates are led into the execution chamber exactly thirty minutes before the execution is scheduled to take place, which would mean that the condemned is being led into the chamber as I type this- and is scheduled to die in 30 minutes.

Not a fan of the death penalty. I think that it is a cruel and sad tribute to who we are as a society that we still permit this behavior on the part of our government.

Took about 25-years too long.

This man broke into his in laws home, shot them both, then kidnapped his wife, and underage sister, terrorizing them.....I say it has taken too long to meet the maker....

I would like to volunteer to pull the switch that starts the execution process.

It's sad it takes so damn long to carry out justice. They cause their punishment, not society.

There's really no evidence that the death penalty serves as a deterrent.

Ask me if I care if the DP is a deterrent

Imo the death penalty is the ultimate penalty for crimes committed against humanity, and the state

Whether or not the state having the DP causes someone to think about whether or not to kill or not to kill isn't my intention

My intention is to punish those who do the deed....period

And it shouldn't take 10 years to go from conviction to execution

Three years is long enough for all the appeals to go through....then off with their heads

yeah as a guy I met through work (now a federal judge-and a really good one) noted-some people deserve to be fried but I don't believe the government should be able to fry people

True, you should coat them in beer batter first.
