Georgia House Passes Bill Stripping Delta Of A Multimillion Tax Break After It Slammed The State’s New Voting Restrictions

"Georgia Republicans voted to strip Delta Air Lines of a jet fuel tax break worth tens of millions of dollars Wednesday after the company u-turned to unequivocally condemn the state’s widely-criticized voting restrictions, joining a growing list of executives who have criticized the new restrictions amid a debate over boycotting Georgia's biggest companies.

KEY FACTS
Republicans in Georgia’s House of Representatives voted to revoke Delta’s tax break, which is worth tens of millions of dollars a year.

The move was in response to CEO Ed Bastian condemning Georgia’s controversial voting bill, who described it as “unacceptable” and not matching “Delta's values."

A number of prominent Georgia-based companies—including Delta, Coca-Cola and Home Depot, which exert a powerful force on Georgia politics— condemned the law after pressure grew from activists to boycott them for not taking stronger stances against the law."

For all their talk of cancel culture, here the Republicans use public policy to try and punish a company for expressing an opinion.
Delta deserved it; the price of mindless wokeness have be high,

Good. Why should Delta be given a tax break to finance Delta campaigning for Democrats?

joko104, TurtleDude, and trixare4kids:

I see both of you liking joko104's rubbish. You three seem totally fine with this kind of behavior on part of the Republicans, apparently, from beginning to end. No sense of fairness. No sense of fair play. Pure political warfare. Not a big surprise because all of you supported the biggest asshole in U.S. political history, Trump.

So when the Democrats come to power in Georgia, or if the Democrats have the opportunity in any other state, the three of you will be just fine with the Democrats suppressing the votes of Republicans, most notably white, rural Republicans in order to make it less likely for Republicans to win, right?

And you three will also be okay with the Democrats punishing anyone that criticizes them for doing so, right?

Just to be clear. You're okay with this going forward, right?

conservative voters tend to be more able to get to the polls than inner city leftwing voters, according to the Democrats

Good. Why they have any say in anything is amazing. Delta can Geaux FO
The Constitution is why they can speak out if they want to.

Do you have a problem with the constitution of the United States of America?

Lies.

I live in a rural, highly conservative area, Not once has there ever been a line to vote.

People in black neighborhoods have to wait for hours on end.

If that were the case in rural American the Republican party would never win another election.

Let's be fair, let's make sure that Republicans have to wait just as long to vote as democrats in the cities do, you on board?

Fair is fair right.

You're kidding yourself if you think these legislators don't study voting patterns.

That's OK the pillow man said he will make it up.

non-responsive. we always hear that having an ID or driving more than a mile is a hardship for a democrat but not a republican.

That's what you libruls said just before the GOP took over the House and state legislatures in 2010, and the Senate in 2014. The pendulum always swings when the democraps over reach.

George Bush was the end of the Republicans. We would never see another one. Oops.

Speaking for myself, I totally oppose suppressing legal voting. I also totally support suppressing illegal votes.

What corruption?
One political party voting to punish a company by removing their tax credits because the CEO of the company exercised his first ammendment rights in a way that wasn't favorable to that political party.

That is text book corruption. You know that right?

So you need to decide. Do you condemn what the Georgia Republican party did?

Or do you endorse public corruption?

False choice. Tax Credits aren’t a right; They were granted by government and they can be withdrawn by government. Sort of a “deplatforming”.

What happened is that the state of Georgia gave Delta certain tax breaks. The state didn't have to do that-- but it was good (or at least both thought it was good) for the state and good for Delta.

The CEO supported the law-- even though election law reform has no particular bearing on Delta as an entity.

Until the law was passed. And then he faced the standard political pressure from the various know-nothings and ignoramuses who opposed the law.
And he folded because there is no real hill for him to fight upon-- election law reform has no bearing on Delta. Why alienate potential customers?

However, Republicans and conservatives are tired of the nonsense. So they are pushing back. If the CEO wants to score plaudits in progressive circles he is going to have to earn it. Let him put his money where his mouth is.

Moral of the story for Delta CEO-- stay out of politics.

i don't believe what corporations say with their mouths. i believe what they say with their money. looks like the ball is now in Delta's court.

Nonsense.

Of course tax credits aren't a right. Duh.

But presumably the Republican majority voted for them because there was some public, NOT partisan, reason for instituting them.

Then to turn around and cancel them for nakedly partisan reasons. Because the CEO, excercized his first ammendment right, and said something against a pet policy of the Republican majority.

That is text book corruption.

Denying the simple facts only makes people look foolish.
