While that is chilling it isn't much lower than previous hardball played by guys like Lyndon Johnson. And it is understandable because Trump is so different and so eccentric in his shifting views there really isn't any highly accomplished experts that can mirror him.

So in his first term he hired many folks of stature acceptable to mainstream Republicans and often Democrats. The great majority never worked out (nor did some fringe types like Steve Bannon).

So now he is looking solely for hyper loyal folk, no matter how close they are to being the bottom of the barrel of qualifications. Gaetz, Gabbard, etc.

The problem isn't that they are hyper loyal, the problem is what they are hyper loyal too. When someone like Barr or Pompeo are not loyal crazy enoughd for Trump you know Gaetz kinds of nominations are inevitable.
