I was trying to figure out why Trump would pardon Kwame Kilpatrick. Remember that Kwame Kilpatrick was the former Democratic mayor of Detroit who was locked up for 24 felony counts of fraud.

Prosecutors said he, along with his father and close associate Bobby Ferguson, engaged in a massive scheme to steer lucrative government contracts to shell companies run by Ferguson, siphoning off more than $5 million from the city of Detroit.

When the city of Detroit declared bankruptcy in 2013, Kilpatrick's mayorship was held partly responsible.

Kwame Kilpatrick was convicted on 24 corruption counts, including racketeering, bribery, extortion and fraud.

Kilpatrick's former brother in law is Daniel Ferguson, brother of co-defendant Bobby Ferguson. Trump did not commute the sentence of Bobby Ferguson.

KIlpatrick's sentence was in line with the 28 year sentence given to Ohio County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora who also remains in prison.

It seems the only reason Kilpatrick had his sentence commuted by Trump was the intercession of Diamond and Silk, African-American Fox Nations hosts who are strong Trump supporters.

From the start of trump's presidency to the end, we noted that people who fed his ego were all he seemed to care about, and the people he used his power to help. I read the explanation and it was rather empty. It's basically because he was a good prisoner for 7 years. The guy stole $5 million from the city of Detroit among other crimes. The truth is Diamond and Silk asked him to do it.

How does it make sense to proclaim that you're going to "drain the swamp" then you have mercy on giant swamp rats like Kilpatrick?

"President Trump commuted the sentence of the former Mayor of Detroit, Kwame Malik Kilpatrick. This commutation is strongly supported by prominent members of the Detroit community," the White House said in a statement. Mr. Kilpatrick has served approximately 7 years in prison for his role in a racketeering and bribery scheme while he held public office. During his incarceration, Mr. Kilpatrick has taught public speaking classes and has led Bible Study groups with his fellow inmates.

Correction: His sentence was commuted. He was pardoned.

Was 28 years too much for stealing $5M from the city? I don't know but I do think 7 years was not enough.

I have more sympathy for a convicted drug dealer than for Kwame. The city of Detriot needs a hero not another crook. Kilpatrick is a lot like Trump in that his supporters still support him despite clear evidence that he's a crook. Same with Trump and Trump University scam.

I read his explanation before. It was a load of BS so I did more digging and found that Diamond and Silk were behind it.

Why do you keep dodging my point? If Trump ran a campaign on cracking down on drug dealers it wouldn't make sense for him to pardon or commute the sentences of drug dealers. Trump ran on draining the swamp yet he commutes the sentences of swamp rats like Kilpatrick and Rob Blagojevich.

Why can't you admit to yourself that your hero is a fraud?

It doesn't surprise me that Diamond and Silk who support a corrupt politician like Trump would also want to see Kwame Kilpatrick released. He's basically a Black Donald Trump.
