Funny Cars

That's not a funny car.
This is a Funny Car.

The rear wheel centerlines were moved forward for better weight displacement, and not by a lot.
But enough to look "funny" and after these modifiedd drag cars began showing up, people said that they "looked a little funny" and gradually the term stuck.

This is a modern Funny Car in action.

You're just thinking of UGLY CARS, maybe they can be Fugly Cars. 😆

I know what funny cars are. The narrator of the OP is funny so I co-opted the name.

The "narrator" was a bot that didn't even realize that the "Chevy van" it referred to was actually a Ford Econoline LOL.

Where's the van in the OP?

I actually had one of those many years ago. It was an ex-telephone company van so it too had no windows in the back.
I chose it because I was carrying about 650 pounds of TV production equipment that no one else needed to see, and as a phone van it also had the steel cage behind the front seats to protect from theft.
I went through a few of those kinds of vans.

Now here's the funny part, when my wife and I showed pictures of these old windowless vans to the kids both of them shrieked "OMG you had a Molester Van?" 😆😆😆
To them, it looked like this:

I swear to God we could not stop laughing....

"OMG Mom!! You mean you rode around with Jeff in his molester mobile???"

And no...neither of them were conceived in the back of a molester-mobile because Karen's kids (now MY kids) were via Karen's first hubs.

When I was thirteen there was a blinding rainstorm and my dad wrapped our Econoline work van around a Sedan de Ville. Dashboard caved in on my legs and broke them in five places total. My right foot was crushed.

We will not discuss Econoline vans again. IS THAT CLEAR?

Oh yeah I feel much the same way.
In my defense I was young, just starting out as a camera op and I needed a work van but yes I always made wisecracks about the lack of front end protection.
Fortunately I never met any immovable solid objects with the front end, although there was one instance where I jacked the brakes so hard that the rear came up a few inches for a moment.
It was empty at the time and I did insist on good brakes, so they did their job a little too well!

I had a Ford Falcon dash get crammed into my knees during a dragstrip crash.
That was "fun"...I now have a knee that likes to complain, even forty years later.

Funny cars exert more G forces than the space shuttle

Funny cars exert more G forces than the space shuttle

And more than some fighter jets, even when they get steam catapulted.
NHRA says we're about to reach the point where the old Air Force adage about "God flying the plane" may begin to apply on the dragstrip, because past a certain point, acceleration can make a lot of people just black out for a few seconds.

Experts say that 5 G's can cause G-Loc, G induced loss of consciousness and some top fuel dragsters can generate in excess of 5 G's.

It's a volvo.. (under the hood)

That sounds like it would explain it but I would like to know WHAT KIND of Volvo powerplant, because believe it or not Volvo has actually managed to break out of its old mold of low-performance tanks impervious the elements and some Volvo engines are actually making some very impressive power these days.
Mind you, I am not bashing those old Volvo engines, they were very overbuilt on purpose which is why more than a few of them have racked up a MILLION miles or more, which exceeds the longevity of a good many commercial DIESEL engines.

Volvo C70, It is named the Youabian Puma and is the result of a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles deciding to build his dream car.

Oh, sorry, apparently I was lying to you. He has actually placed a Corvette V8 under the hood.

The Best lookin' truck of all.
