Seems France can't make up their mind.....one minute they want to Punish Assad and then the next they are stressing the Importance of a Political Solution. Which is it? Moreover they want to make the Opposition.....Stronger. What do you think about that? Note the change in terminology by the Western media now.....they prefer to use the term Opposition rather than Rebels. Now I wonder why that is.
France said openly Thursday for the first time that its military is preparing for a possible operation in Syria — but President Francois Hollande stopped short of announcing armed intervention over a suspected chemical weapons attack.
Hollande does not need French parliamentary approval to launch military action that lasts less than four months. He appears to have a stronger hand than his U.S. and British counterparts, who are facing some resistance at home to a Syrian intervention amid questions over the attack.
On Thursday, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said: "The Armed Forces have been put in position to respond" if the president commits French forces to an international intervention in Syria.
Hollande on Thursday stressed the importance of a political solution and making the Syrian opposition a stronger alternative, notably with increased firepower.
French military officials confirmed that the frigate Chevalier Paul, which specializes in anti-missile and air-air capabilities, as well as the hulking transport ship Dixmude, had set off Thursday from the Mediterranean port of Toulon as part of normal training and operational preparations — but denied reports that the move was linked to a Syrian intervention.....snip~

This is not a chance in tone. The French have been strongly advocating for a major ramp up in assistance to the FSA and SNC for almost two years. Their commitment to military involvement once the US signaled support was immediate.
Heya Sherman. :2wave: Truthfully the French filed the resolution with Syria while the Libyan conflict was taking place. Moreover they officially recognized the FSA and TNC before we did . Then the UK did....and we still had not at that time.
Yes which is why this is not a shift in position.
My guess is that the term "opposition" is the French analogue of Obama's "overseas contingency operations" or "workplace violence."
Gosh, it seems like we're all ready to go, we just need a leader. But like the headline says, "The British Aren't Coming!, The British Aren't Coming!"
Imo French are too happy that British are not there and now they will lick the US as their "best friend in bad times" :lamo
Well, I think the French are ecstatic that they got the US to cover their ass again. Since they couldn't go and Bomb Syria on their Own.
.
They did ok the last two times

The whole 'cheese eating surrender monkey' malarky gives the French way to much credit and covers up their incredibly brutal history in the region.
I would love to see France to lead a military attack on anyone. Not because I think they're right on an issue, I think they're dead wrong. I really want to see how it would turn out.
