In his effort to push through the crowded room of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, Pete Buttigieg, the gay mayor of South Bend, Ind., has regularly brought up his Christian faith and his experience balancing scripture with his sexuality.

“It can be challenging to be a person of faith who’s also part of the LGBTQ community and yet, to me, the core of faith is regard for one another,” the candidate said at a CNN town hall on Monday. “And part of God’s love is experienced, according to my faith tradition, is in the way that we support one another and, in particular, support the least among us.”

And yet once more, the self-righteous right Christian conservatives show how utterly ignorant and homophobic they are. It was only a matter of time that someone was going to judge Pete Buttigieg for his sexuality and shouldn't be a surprise that it's the son of Billy Graham to do it first. Franklin Graham actually stated that Pete Buttigieg 'should repent' for being gay.

Going around telling everyone how religious you are and practicing a Gay lifestyle are indeed at odds. Plus he's comparing his morals to Trump's therefore, as Graham said, making it political.

It's a grotesque fallacy to attribute to an entire group the actions or beliefs of one member.

No different than claiming that all Muslims are terrorists, all gays are pedophiles, or all liberals are incapable of thinking logically.

Most Christians believe in the Trinity, which without getting technical, means Jesus and Yahweh are of the same mind on all things. In the OT, Yawheh (through his priests) said men lying with men was an abomination. Therefore, Jesus would believe the same thing.

I've said it before but I'll repeat it once more: never understand why gay people want to be part of the religion that says their lifestyle is an abomination.

If Franklin would stick to this sort of action, even with the highly staged promotional shots, there wouldn't be an issue. His father was noteworthy in how much he stayed OUT of political commentary.

Franklin insists on injecting his evaluation of SOME politicians but seems to be ill informed on the actions of the current occupant of the White House. That is hypocrisy and no PR shots in third world countries changes that.... eace

As a Christian, I can only say that Franklin Graham has way more political influence and involvement than someone claiming to work for God should have.

If morality of a president matters to evangelical conservatives, how can conservative evangelicals call themselves Christians at all and still defend and support Trump? Waving a cross and hugging a flag doesn't mean they're on the side of Christ. Pete Buttigieg doesn't walk with his chest puffed out boasting loudly to be a godly man, he quietly lives his faith every day. The hypocrisy of so-called 'religious' evangelical leaders that are standing strong with Trump, possibly the least spiritual president in U.S. history, is turning people away from traditional leaders.

I'm not calling Mayor Pete's faith into question. Only one person can define their faith. I just don't see where Graham is wrong. Homosexuality, particularly of the male variety, is an abomination according to the Christian bible. There really is no way to get around it. Some might try to claim that Jesus never spoke on the subject, but his father did, and if you believe Jesus and Yahweh are of one mind, then Jesus would either condemn homosexuality or would have told his followers that certain sections of the Old Testament were wrong.

As an atheist who was never a Christian but a Baha'i, I would have to ask you, HumblePi: Who are "true" Christians? Who are "false" Christians? Are you a "true" Christian? What is expected of you as a "true" follower of Christ? And can other "true" Christians have different political views or vote differently from you and still remain "true" Christians?

Why is it ok for Buttigieg to criticize Christians, but not for Christians to respond? Pence did so in a very respectful manner, and Graham speaks the truth has he sees it. He isn't "blasting" the candidate, he is giving an opinion. That is still allowed, is it not?
The mayor would be wise to win votes by being as respectful as he wishes to be treated.

Sanctimonious conservatives conveniently forget something that Jesus Christ preached to his disciples. From Matthew; "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." People push the scripture passages they don't like to hear to the background of their conscious mind and bring forward the texts and quotations that portray a vengeful, judgmental God, one that punishes those they personally despise. All men are created equal in the judgement of Thomas Jefferson. Not just a hand-chosen few, but all men.
