Hopefully the shooter is apprehended or neutralized soon if not already.

Fort Stewart Army base in Georgia has been put on lockdown following reports of an “active shooter.”

Casualties have been reported but the exact number has not yet been confirmed by officials.

“Fort Stewart is in a lockdown status due to an active shooter incident in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area,” a post from the base said.

The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. with law enforcement responding to the scene. “Casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing,” the post added.

CNN is reporting that the threat is over.
 
Damn. My daughter was stationed at Fort Hood when that officer decided to kill a bunch of troops. We had several anxious hours waiting to hear from her.

Family members go through a terrible time in between initial reports and confirmation.

I'm sure many at the base have reassured family but many loved ones are still anxiously waiting.

So it was just some trivia you felt compelled to relate.

It's a big country with a very large population. Depending on how you define "mass shootings", you might be able to conclude there are two a day, if you try harder.
 
Early reports of two shooters are usually inaccurate. Multiple shooters targeting unarmed people is pretty uncommon. Most will probably think back to Columbine or DC Snipers.

Ok, so you went with continuing to be daft.
Great.
If you don't know about how many people are killed on the daily, that is a you problem.
 
What I'm seeing now indicates 5 injuries and one shooter. Still not really clear if there were any fatalities or what the status of the shooter is other than "detained".

The current reporting seems to indicate one shooter.

I know it's a relatively small number. You see, that's how it works. You have to consider the size of the population. In 2024, about .005% of the population died from homicides. And that's a decline from the previous year, and the rate is expected to continue to decline this year.

So you can see that homicides are rare, and getting more rare.
