Chinese Manufacturing Output Now Drops in Second Quarter

This next story is a natural outcome in the flow of goods. Remember, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) of the first quarter is a hindsight review. Meaning the information released today was based on activity in January, February and March 2025
U.S. companies surged the purchasing of import goods, mostly from China, by more than 50% in the first quarter. They were/are building inventory. So, what happens in China starting in April?
Hong Kong, CNN – China’s factory activity contracted at its fastest pace in 16 months in April, as steep US tariffs took a heavy toll on the manufacturing sector, adding urgency to Beijing’s efforts to roll out fresh economic stimulus.
The manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 49.0 in April, the weakest reading since December 2023, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday. A reading below 50 signals a contraction.
Zhao Qinghe, a senior statistician at the NBS, said in a statement that the contraction in factory activity was due to “sharp changes in the external environment and other factors.”
China is in for a world of hurt.

You seem to really like the idea that others are suffering? Why don't you post about all the US farmers that are already suffering from Trumps tariffs as well? Surely that must ne getting you excited as well?

What those pre-tariff inventories mean is that in another few weeks we will start to see US inventories drop, and inflation start to spike unless there is a tariff deal done. Too bad if you own anything made in China that requires parts or consumables I guess. So far it looks more likely that China is going to bite the bullet and just decouple itself from as much US dependence as they can. That isn't good news for US consumers, or a lot of US exporters, or a lot of US import businesses. Personally I don't want anyone to have to go through this painful and unnecessary stupidity regardless of where they live.

I’m less concerned with China than I am with the US.

What we’re going to see next is retailers have about five to seven weeks of full inventories left

Trump did this.

They surged because of the tariffs.
You should be shifting to blaming the lower 2nd quarter on Biden now. You need to start that defense now.
It's gonna be bad.

Do the Russians pay you for how many posts you put up, or by how many posts are in the threads you start?

You seem to really like the idea that others are suffering?

MAGA has a very zero-sum worlview and mindset. If SOMEONE is getting hurt, that means THEY must be winning. They never consider the possibility of win-win or lose-lose scenarios.

Trump is a lose-lose scenario.

Have you noticed you are one of the few who sees these things as positive? Companies bought ahead of the tariffs, nothing more.

So American companies go on a hoarding spree to work around the tariffs and now that they've stopped over-buying, factories have slowed down.
Who's gonna be in a world of hurt when those hoarded stockpiles run out? Americans don't do deprivation very well. And nobody does deprivation better than Chinese.
Chinese- endured years of single-child policy.
Americans- fistfights in WalMart over last Cabbage-Patch doll.

The Chinese economy has been in the deflationary dumps for months. This tells me that the sudden surge in exports to the USA is actually from existing overstocked inventories in China. No new work and no inventories tells me the factories are shutting down. China's been plagued by overcapacity. They can't sell to themselves because so many factories would just race prices to the bottom, let alone the people are out of work and saving all their money. Just like new apartment towers are being leveled, you going to start to see factories being leveled too. China's big mistake was if failed to develop its own consumer class. Ultimately demand is what generates GDP, and you cannot keep depending on the debt ridden American consumer to keep buying your stuff. Its pretty obvious to me that the CCP don't care about its own people and all they care about is staying in power and enriching the politcal elite. Very similar to the Democratic party in America. Trumps going to win the trade war and the China coming out of this will be far different than the China of yesteryear. In the USA I highly doubt you'll see shortages nor inflation. Just like the clueless left predicted there's nobody to pick the crops... it's just be business like usual and life will go on. Remember: We live in interesting times.

Nobody win in a trade war. You're rejoicing about China's suffering but ignoring all the Americans who will lose their jobs.

China doesn't have elections. Trump has to deal with midterms in 2 years. He'll be turned into a lame duck president if Dems takeover the House.

LOL

Whether or not China is hurting is not something I care about. Whether my dollars still buy as much is what I do.

No one else has stopped buying from China.

China ports vs. US left coast ports.

Real time vessel traffic that I posted in another thread - from @5pm EST today. Pulled directly from the Marine Traffic app.

The literal rest of the world is going about trading - OUR ports are WAY below typical volume…and way less busy than the rest of the world.

Trump tariffs and trade wars is hurting US.
