$10 million is cheap...hey sanctuary cities we got some more for you
The big picture: The program faced intense backlash after Florida officials were accused of misleading migrants and promising false incentives. The bill, which would set aside $10 million for the program, now heads to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who is expected to sign it into law.

  • DeSantis and other Republicans have argued that the program is an effective way of tackling a surge in migration to the U.S.-Mexico border that has overwhelmed southern states, but immigration advocates counter that the practice is dehumanizing and uses migrants as political pawns.
  • The governor faced scrutiny after he used state funding to fly migrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard even though the program only set aside money to relocate migrants from within Florida.
Worth noting: The program already faces several legal challenges.

  • One lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of the legislation, highlighting the fact that the language used in the budget for the initial program specifies that the money will help transport migrants out of Florida — not necessarily Texas.
  • The undocumented migrants flown to Martha's Vineyard also filed a class action lawsuit against DeSantis and other Florida officials.
  • A federal watchdog and the D.C. attorney general have both launched investigations into the transports.

Poster cheers human beings being treated like pawns in a game of politics….and effectively human trafficking by GOP states.

Doesn't the Bible have a thing or two to say about how we treat sojourners?

"Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt." -- Exodus 22:21

"He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing." -- Deuteronomy 10:18

And so on.

And what stops these state from shipping them right back to Florida, which Florida would have to send them elsewhere, quickly depleting their $0 million fund?
It seems to be a pointless exercising by the Florida right wing to appease their far right base.

They're going to transport immigrants who aren't even in Florida.

"Republicans have said the intent is to identify immigrants crossing into border states, such as Texas, who intend to move to Florida and, instead, offer them flights elsewhere."

they could. but they dont. I doubt the migrants want to go back to Florida while the blue states put them up in cushy hotels

Recall Biden dumps migrants all over the country in the dead of night without informing/compensating states
or as Psaki said "very early flights"
But i guess that's different

I have never cheered the practice - regardless of who has done it.

You are unable to say the same.

So you're under the impression democrats really only care about human suffering? How many of these refugees have you taken in?

regardless what's good for the goose is good for the gander -and yes im all for it.
as long as migrants flood the border -and Florida is quickly becoming jammed packed - and Mayorkas wont let BP enforce it
then they are hot potatos .. even the blue states are relocating some now

DeSantis isn't targeting immigrants in Florida.

Your claim is "mostly false."

Well I’m glad you are clear that you don’t respect living humans enough not to see them shipped around as pawns in a political game.

Not very pro-life of you, but hey.

that's old data. the vast majority are single men and women now. not unaccompanied minors

Nice try. Your claim is mostly false. Unless you'd like to provide proof otherwise.

You don't even know where DeSantis is targeting immigrants.

Your posts are unreliable.

Back to when officials in Luzerne County, PA brought the issue up - yes.

People are not pawns to be shipped around the country - regardless of who has done it.
well they cant stay in border states. so they have to be dispersed. The problem is supply side. not redistribution.
There is a shitload of human smuggling involved - ads for drivers to come to the border -routine stops with migrants packed in trailers. Migrants suffocating in trailers
So i dont se the humanitarian outrage you express as particularly focused on the problem of millions of migrants
being causative of the distribution

You can’t condemn traffickers on one side of a border when you cheer for them on the other.

Should the southern states bear all the burden? They are political pawns regardless of where they wind up.
