No other developed country in the world would do this. This is (to use Trump's phrase) "shithole country" stuff.

“They are essentially packed into cages, wall-to-wall humans, 32 detainees per cage,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who represents Florida’s 25th Congressional District, said during a news conference following their tour.

It also seems that people incarcerated at the facility may not be getting access to legal counsel...

The wife of a 43-year-old Guatemalan man currently detained at “Alligator Alcatraz” told CNN her husband is enduring harsh conditions similar to those described by lawmakers who toured the facility. After more than two weeks in detention, she said, he has yet to see a lawyer.

Guantanamo 2.0. No access to legal representation there either. The vast majority of those detainees were also entirely innocent. America seems to enjoy caging people like animals.

If you can’t do the time …

What 'crime'? Illegal entry to the US is a misdemeanour and a civil not criminal violation-like trespass. Do you normally cage people for misdemeanours?
We normally don’t have Presidents such as Biden that created such a huge problem with illegals.

I get where your going but misdemeanor is a crime.

So illegal entry is a crime, just a very low level one and the vast majority are not charged as a crime and handled in a civil manner.

However, on the other hand, illegal presence is not a crime and purely a civil matter.

What's the difference?

Say someone from Central or South America crosses the border illegally? That is illegal entry.

Let's say a South African comes to the US on a Student VISA to attend school. Drops out of school and does not leave the country, disappearing into the country side. That is illegal presence but not illegal entry has he crossed the border legally.

Are they left over Obama cages?
Is this idea of what is means to be a christian?

Leviticus 19:33.

33 “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

Matthew 25:40
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

This is disgusting. It is obviously a political stunt, the next thing DeSantis cooked up following lying to immigrants and sending them off to Martha's Vineyard after telling them they would be going where they could have jobs and get settled. Naturally, it was a lie. When the immigrants arrived at Martha's Vineyard, a remote island, they were not expected at all. Bewildered local residents did their best to provide food and shelter, but no jobs were waiting for them and there was no place for them to settle.

So now, instead of flying them off to be somebody else's problem, DeSantis decided to make a political spectacle out of cruel harsh detention.

This is beyond stupid. Take actively working people who have been in the USA for years contributing to the economy, and lock them up, ceasing their work, ceasing their tax paying, ceasing their productivity in America. This leaves the jobs they were doing undone.

This political stunt was dreamed up to appease the hateful immature xenophobes. Nothing more, nothing less. The willingness to be cruel to humans is appalling.

Who wants physically demanding dangerous work in the heat with no AC, no breaks, back-breaking work, no benefits, no time off, no retirement, no health care for low pay? Hunh? Who wants those jobs? Immigrants. That's who. Without them those jobs do not get done.

This whole hating on immigrants thing is DUMB! People should be ashamed of themselves for falling for it. So immature. It's embarrassing. This is not what I want America to be. This does not make America great It makes America cruel. Congratulations, MCGA. You've made America cruel as you are making China great again.

Christian is a euphemism for pedophile, abuser, thief, and hypocrite.
Meh. A bit strong.

I know many good Christians. None have even one of the attributes you've tagged them with.

I respect you but I'm not backing down on this. Either they are the problem or they look the other way and make excuses for the offenders while others commit these actions. I left the Catholic church and then became a Humanist more than 35 years ago for this reason and its only gotten worse since then. Organized religion doesn't solve problems. It creates and legitimizes them. Its long past time for people to put away their imaginary friends and their religious delusions and act like moral and rational adults.

"god works in mysterious ways" is the favorite excuse for allowing these actions to happen.

That article reads like satire since the bias in it is so funny.

They said they heard detainees shouting for help and crying out “libertad”— Spanish for “freedom” — amid sweltering heat, bug infestations and meager meals.

"This is shocking. The people in the jail are crying that they want out!" Democrat lawmakers. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

BTW speaking of meager meals, did you ever see the Michelle Obama school lunches?

“They are essentially packed into cages, wall-to-wall humans, 32 detainees per cage,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who represents Florida’s 25th Congressional District, said during a news conference following their tour.

So right under this it says they were shown empty cells but the former DNC chairperson can tell you exactly what it looks like with people in it.

Wasserman Schultz said each cage contained three small toilets with attached sinks, which detainees use for drinking water and brushing their teeth, sharing the same water used to flush the toilets.

The Democrat lawmaker declared "The water for drinking, brushing their teeth and flushing their toilets all comes from the same place!"

I'm personally horrified to hear such a thing!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

When they toured the kitchen area, Wasserman Schultz said government employees were being offered large pieces of roast chicken and sausages, while the detainees’ lunch consisted of a “gray turkey and cheese sandwich, an apple and chips.”

“I don’t see how that could possibly sustain them nutritionally or not make them hungry,” Wasserman Schultz said. “And when you have hungry people, obviously their mood changes.”

The politicians were well fed but the prisoners were apparently not as well fed. Did the politicians offer their food to the prisoners?

When you're hungry your mood changes.... said the women who can't understand why the hungry country changed their mood and their leadership after the last election.

About 900 people are currently detained at the facility, Wasserman Schultz said during the news conference but it has the capacity to hold 3,000 people, with room for more, according to Kevin Guthrie, executive director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

So the facility can hold 3000. It has 900 now. The lawmakers were shown unused cells but we have to believe that people are being stuffed into cages literally wall to wall with no room to move.

It goes on but the main point remains, if you download an app to your phone, you self-deport, you get a free plane ticket, a thousand dollars and most importantly the ability to apply to enter legally later.

Guilt by association?
I left the Catholic church and then became a Humanist
As am I. But I respect people's freedom of association. It's in both our constitutions.
Organized religion doesn't solve problems. It creates and legitimizes them. Its long past time for people to put away their imaginary friends and their religious delusions and act like moral and rational adults.

The absence of religion doesn't necessarily make people "moral and rational adults" any more than attending church diminishes those attributes.

You have a tendency to post bigoted comments. Characterizing people of faith as "pedophile, abuser, thief, and hypocrite" is one example, as is your repeated dogmatism directed at Boomers (aka ageism).

You are at least as intolerant as those you rail against.
