FL Open Carry

Yes. Anyone open carrying in an urban or suburban environment should be avoided. Obviously someone who is unbalanced. Either through debilitating fear or pathological insecurity with a need to intimidate others. Probably both.
Like cops? How do you know that carrier is not an off duty cop ?

Yep.

Whenever I’ve been in an environment with average individuals open carrying, I get out of that environment as quickly as possible.

Average idiots thinking they’re going to be a “hero”…most of whom that I’ve seen in person appearing out of shape and/or not quite right in the head.

Imagine needing to wear your “bravery” strapped to you for everyone to see…so you can walk around and feel “tough”

🤷‍♀️

At least if they’re open carrying though, the rest of people can know “there’s the insecure one, stay away”
As I've said a gazillion times (since I live down south and know a gazillion southern men) it's a variety of things.

Some were just raised to carry.

Some are fearful

Some couldn't cut it in sports and turned to something to make the girls think they're just as manly/tough

Some are small

Some are protesting

Some like the attention

Some are preppers

Some just enjoy killing animals

Some think they're being replaced

<I could go on>

So, if you see an off duty cop or detective, you run for the hills?

I don’t encounter off duty officers walking around open carrying guns as part of my everyday life.

In fact, I don’t encounter anyone in my corner of the world walking around open carrying guns on any sort of regular basis other than uniformed law enforcement agents.

And I prefer life that way.

🤷‍♀️

Open carry is now the law of the land on FL. Joining the other 46 states that all open carry. 🥳

I am surprised that our gun control proponents haven’t started screaming “blood in the streets” yet.

Time to get a fancy holster and maybe a BBQ gun. ;)

I'd probably start carrying a gun around too....if I were a coward I guess.

Its sort of creepy, those with the "intellect" that says "I'm going to strap on a gun, and go walk around in public. People will think I'm tough, and nobody ever thought that before about me. I'll get attention, and it will be really manly."

Yeah. No psychological issues there AT ALL. 😧

It must be nice to live in a safe suburban community where police respond in seconds when people call 911
It is. I’m very happy where I live and think my community is pretty damn nice, and in many ways, ideal.

I’d like to see more people afforded the luxury of living somewhere safe and relatively free of significant crime and worry about crime. And where *if* they need emergency responders, those responders arrive promptly.

In fact, I’d say it should be a societal goal.

Nope. Handgun open carry is allowed in NJ with a permit. The NJ permit does not distinguish between open and concealed.
I stand corrected.

Open Carry States That Require a Permit or Are Not Explicitly Addressed

In these states, open carry is allowed only with a permit or is unclear but regulated:

  1. Connecticut: At least 21 years old (see appellate notes in Peruta v. Commissioner of Public Safety)
  2. Georgia: At least 21 years old (18 for military; open carry not addressed in the new Constitutional Carry Bill)
  3. Hawaii: At least 21 years old (valid only in issuing county)
  4. Maryland: At least 21 years old (18 for employment purposes)
  5. Massachusetts: Open carry only with a current, valid Class B license (no new Class B licenses issued)
  6. Minnesota: At least 21 years old
  7. New Jersey: At least 21 years old (open carry not explicitly prohibited, but regulated)
  8. North Dakota: At least 18 years old
  9. Rhode Island: At least 21 years old (only when permitted by the attorney general)
  10. South Carolina: At least 21 years old

You mean like cops? :ROFLMAO:

No, not at all like cops.

Cops have all gone through at least a modicum of training, and have had at least a modicum of psych eval.

Also marksmanship training etc, and also duly sworn by the state to act as LEO.

OTOH: a moronic Gun Nut with a big ol' beer belly strapping up to go to the grocery store: well thats a moron with some SERIOUS issues right there IMHO. Thats just me. Don't trust 'em. Nobody should imo.

If I happen to be carrying, you won't know it. And I'll keep it that way.
Well according to some in this thread, the very act of carrying means that you are fearful or overcompensating. This just gives Floridians options.

Then it has achieved it's purpose. To keep people away from you.

Nice to know that some bigotry is OK for you. ;)

Hey....you do you. Are you a bully in real life? Making fun of people for not thinking like you? Hmmmm.....sounds a little like a MAGA to me.

There is some good news. People aren't gunned down in our country about every hour or so.

Wives, girlfriends in exes never have to worry.

I have no desire to be around such individuals.

I also avoid those that walk around wearing red hats, etc.

Works well for me. Your mileage may vary 🤷‍♀️

I can see it being helpful in areas where a women is nervous walking home alone from work or the subway station. Or a store owner locking up and making his nightly deposit, or for anyone who is prey for thugs who don't give a shit if they hurt you or not. So you're right, ymmv.

To each their own I suppose. But I prefer you not know I'm compensating for being hung like a field mouse.:D
This just gives Floridians options.
Just don't get the desire to open carry. God forbid something did go down; guess who's getting shot first?
The guy that can shoot back.

Most public transportation bans open and/or conceal carry - or did in my experience.

When I lived in Philly, open and/or conceal carry was heavily regulated. Same with NYC. This included on public transit.

That may have changed.

And I don’t think a nervous individual with a gun is necessarily an individual safe to have a gun. I think they are prone to accidents, accidental discharges, etc.

Case in point above.

Can someone explain open carry to me, please? You just walk into a gun store, buy a 9mm, ammo, and holster, and wear it out?

Kind of, but if you're going to open carry, you might as well go with 45ACP or 10mm.

A bigot and bully. Typical of some here.
