In fact, the agency appears to have been completely unprepared to distribute bottled water to Hurricane Sandy victims when the storm hit this Monday. In contrast to its stated policy, FEMA failed to have any meaningful supplies of bottled water -- or any other supplies, for that matter -- stored in nearby facilities as it had proclaimed it would on its website. This was the case despite several days advance warning of the impending storm.
FEMA only began to solicit bids for vendors to provide bottled water for distribution to Hurricane Sandy victims on Friday, sending out a solicitation request for 2.3 million gallons of bottled water at the FedBizOpps.govwebsite. Bidding closed at 4:30 pm eastern

I don't think the death toll is going to be as bad, but the response to the hurricane is at least as bad as Katrina. I don't remember anyone dumpster diving for food, then again there were warehouses full of supplies in NOLA that weren't moving because Blanco didn't want to cause a political issue by going around red tape. I have no faith in bureacrats in emergencies as they seem to have no comprehension of how quickly emergencies need to be dealt with. This is looking worse than Katrina, yet folks are incredibly silent about the piss poor performance of government agencies to provide life saving services to the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Why atack the source? The fact is that supplies are not getting to people, police are overwhelmed in NYC, gasoline is in short supply, and there is no power in much of the effected areas. This is standard stuff, now, I will grant that the northeast hasn't had to deal with this magnitude of hurricane in a long time, but this is the point where you allocate resources and go into overdrive.Wait because FEMA is distributing water that they are buying today rather than in the past means they are failing? This is disaster relief, and no amount of preplanning is going to be perfect.
Also, its Brietbart. Your source is junk.
Yep. I remember the warehouses of supplies sitting around doing nothing but gathering dust, I also remember Lafayette having to home base for a lot of deployable NG assets and all the chopper activity. I don't remember why BR was overloaded but I do remember the constant activity here.In the case of Katrina, food and water were being trucked in as early as 30 August, dispatched out of Camp Beuaregard, in Pineville.
Things are looking bad up there and as usual, Obama will be excused from any responsibility.

The water won't be distributed until MONDAY. Wake up and read the OP, sir. Monday will be what? 7 days since landfall?? FEMA is buying water AFTER landfall and it won't be distributed until landfall +7?
If a Republican were prez, what with all this going on, the Libbos would be losing their minds over this; as well they should. The hypocrisy comes in when they don't hold Obama to the same standard.

The OP is sourced by Brietbart, I'm not going to read it, I know its a junk unreliable source so there's no reason to debate against it. As far as I'm concerned your position is entirely unsourced

Oh, I get it...you don't like the source, so you're going to remain in the dark.

Eh, they are as reliable as the left leaning stuff, 'bout half the story will be accurate and it will be biased towards the ideology. I don't argue that point, but I can say after being through multiple hurricanes that the northeast needs to get ahead of this because these situations devolve quickly.Because Brietbart is an unreliable source, period and facts don't matter there.
Yeah, I was busy in radio then so I missed some of the finer details. I remember now how bogged down BR was, met a lot of NG when they were off duty and they were ecstatic to be in Laffy at the time, many of them were not impressed by BR.BR was overloaded, because they didn't have electricity and had refugees flooding in by the thousands.
The refugees were packed into BR, Laffy, LC, then Houston; respectively as each city ran out of room. The lions share of the provisions were being diverted to those cities instead of New Orleans, which stretched the hell out of FEMA's logistical resources.
Some of the contract trucks at Beauregard were dispatched to Barksdale AFB and did nothing but run back and forth from there to Houston.

Cuomo said the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be bringing 1 million meals and 1 million gallons of water to residents stranded in buildings without electricity for elevator use and running water.
"We're getting scattered reports of senior citizens, some people in public housing who are running out of food and are in high-rise buildings and can't get out of their buildings, because in some cases, the elevator is not operational — and they're literally running out of food," Cuomo said during a press briefing late Wednesday night at his Midtown office.
The first plane carrying supplies and FEMA staff came into JFK airport Thursday morning, according to Cuomo. The National Guard and FEMA will be working with the city and major nonprofits to deliver food and water to stranded residents by going door to door, he said.

Reading something that partisan, biased, and just plain fabricated is not informing oneself. Just look at yourself
Just think of the seniors stranded in high-rises. We getting good information about how FEMA's doing. Maybe Monday.
But one million bottles of water and one million meals doesn't sound like much to me.
Fair enough then. I don't use Breitbart as more than a starting point, but it seems like this time they are more accurate. You tend to see the best and worst in people during these situations, there are going to be people putting their own interests on the back burner to help, then there are people who will take full advantage of the situation. The city/state governments especially need to focus and fast, FEMA was always meant to be a tertiary and they don't tend to do well in primary and secondary roles.Yes, there are hack sites on the left as well.
I agree with you about the Northeast. It doesn't take long for human beings to get desperate and with a Nor'easter headed their way, an already bad situation can get much, much worse.

When you put the numbers in perspective, if NOLA would have 1M meals and water at it's full population that's 90% of the city twice served, NYC is roughly 10M people so that's less than one percent of people once served. They definitely need help.Just think of the seniors stranded in high-rises. We getting good information about how FEMA's doing. Maybe Monday.

Ok...well...how about you provide us with a link showing how provisions are overflowing in those areas and Breitbart is full of doo-doo?
Devastation from the storm doubled -- possibly even tripled -- that caused by Irene, which hit the East Coast in August 2011 as a powerful tropical storm, knocking out power to 8.4 million customers in 13 states.

Good thing. Power is going to be a necessity, hopefully they can get things tightened up a bit.The military has shipped in its heavy tankers. These are large tanker trucks that can carry 25,000 gallons of water or more. I have seen some that can carry up to 100,000
