Feds spike voter citizenship checks in GeorgiaATLANTA — The Justice Department has rejected Georgia's system of using Social Security numbers and driver's license data to check whether prospective voters are citizens, a process that was a subject of a federal lawsuit in the weeks leading up to November's election.
In a letter released on Monday, the Justice Department said the state's voter verification program is frequently inaccurate and has a "discriminatory effect" on minority voters. The decision means Georgia must halt the citizenship checks, although the state can still ask the Justice Department to reconsider, according to the letter and to the Georgia secretary of state's office.
"This flawed system frequently subjects a disproportionate number of African-American, Asian and/or Hispanic voters to additional, and more importantly, erroneous burdens on the right to register to vote," Loretta King, acting assistant attorney general of the Justice Department's civil rights division, said. King's letter was sent to Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker on Friday.

Yeah cause if you ain't white, you're too stupid to get proper ID, you're scared to show it, and you need mommy government to protect you from them damn racist mo'fo just tryin to insure use is Amer'can!
So how was this so-called flawed system implemented? The article never specified.
Were all people registering to vote subjected to the ID checks? or just minority groups?

Georgia's major problem was that they didn't follow the law in regards to enacting these laws. They failed to submit for clearance the section 5 regulations and in failing to do so, violated the Voting Rights Act. It isn't a question of someone being too stupid to obtain proper ID, it's a case of politicians being ignorant about election law.
I would object to the satirical categorization of people who are not white as being too "stupid" when it comes to registering to vote and by implication, having the gall to file a lawsuit about it. Read on page 24 of the compaint, and you will see that a legal citizen who was told he needed to verify that he was a citizen did so, and even after doing so, received a letter stating that he would not be able to vote, even after providing adequate proof! "Mommy government" is needed in this instance as civil rights and voting are federal matters. If your state government egregiously wiped you off wrongly from the voter list and you took care of it, and they still refused to correct it, where should you turn?
If you have to show a photo ID to buy a gun, you very certainly should also need to show a photo ID to vote. Why is it even an issue to ask for ID and proof of citizenship to vote? Taht should be SOP for all states, and all voting.

I guess minorities aren't having any problems getting guns.If you have to show a photo ID to buy a gun, you very certainly should also need to show a photo ID to vote.

Everytime something like that (here in Texas the Dems defeated such a proposal BTW) is brought up, we hear that Minorities can't handle showing ID.
Doesn't matter the merits of the case, it's always that minorities need government protection.
I thought forcing someone to prove they qualify for a constitutional right infringes on their right and is thus constitutionally illegal?
Well, naturally the Messiah Administration would oppose ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements for voters. Where would he be if the people demanded HE present his birth certificate?
Besides which, demanding proof of citizenship would cut into the votes the Democrats get.
But if they were not US citizens then they would not have the the right to vote. So by making them prove that they are in fact US citizens would that be unconstitutional?
From a debate I was in a few weeks ago it is unconstitutional for gun rights. I guess it's OK for voting though?

Gun ownership does not in and of itself affect the political process. Voting does. I would have to check, but I believe it is up to the States to determine voting requirements. From a debate I was in a few weeks ago it is unconstitutional for gun rights. I guess it's OK for voting though?
Policies that only allow registered voters to vote "disproportionately discriminate against minorities" as well.
