Feds: No more education, legal services for immigrant kids

PHOENIX (AP) — The federal government has stopped paying for English-language courses and legal services at facilities that hold immigrant children around the country, imposing budget cuts it says are necessary at a time when record numbers of unaccompanied children are arriving at the border.

The Health and Human Services department notified shelters around the country last week that it was not going to reimburse them for teachers’ pay or other costs such as legal services or recreational equipment. The move appears to violate a legal settlement known as the Flores agreement that requires the government to provide education and recreational activities to immigrant children in its care.

But the agency says it doesn’t have the funding to provide those services as it deals with a soaring number of children coming to the U.S., largely from Central America.

It’s now up to the various nonprofit and private organizations run facilities for the children to cover the cost of teachers, supplies, legal services and even recreational activities and equipment — if they can, or choose to.

If there is one thing we know Jesus would never have done, it's spend a few sheckles on helping some desperately poor children. Just ask any Evangelical or Fundamental Christian who supports Trump, they'll set you straight.

Good to see these people aren't hypocrites, who preach one thing, then do another.



It really is amazing how closely Trump's and Jesus' principles and values mirror each other.

Still, a third of $775 is roughly $258.33. You mean to tell me if you have 20 kids at one place you are spending $5,160 per day to care for those kids and can't provide recreational or education time? GTFO You can do all those things at a significantly lower price but hey then either someone isn't getting paid or it can't be used politically.

Edit to add: "Entered the migrant shelter business" Of course they ****ing did, it's a 220 million dollar business where they don't even have to provide basic things.

What all would you like to see the 50% of tax paying Americans provide to these children of illegals? Maybe the American taxpayer should pay triple what they are paying to provide for them. Make their own children do without so illegals can be provided for. Liberals think American’s pockets have no bottoms. They innocuously use the word government when in reality it is real live flesh and blood Americans who pay federal taxes who are slaving to meet the needs of illegals and it’s never enough is it?
 
Hmm... congress provides funding for one about month's worth of immigrants and then attempts to blame the POTUS for not taking care of all of them "properly". This is not to say that the administration is spending wisely since there always were and are still likely going to be bloated federal contracts to grease the correct palms.

Do you actually really seriously believe that some magic wand is now going to CUT that $220 million dollar budget and that Comprehensive Health Services is suddenly going to be given LESS MONEY?

I guarantee you if even one red cent is cut from Comprehensive's coffers, the sound you hear next will be the equivalent of tossing an M-80 firecracker into a pigsty at 4:00 AM.

(A) Because some are illegals and must be processed and deported but in the meantime they are still entitled to basic human necessities, at least until they are in fact deported.

(B) Because still others are refugees applying for asylum, and despite the fact that they have a less than average chance of being approved (we can't save everyone - quotas are quotas) in the meantime, as human beings, they are entitled to basic human necessities.

Meanwhile, I don't have a problem with Donald Trump pressuring Mexico to do more to offset costs.
I think the tariff idea is spectacularly stupid but who knows, maybe he will think for himself instead of letting Stephen Miller do the thinking for him, and he might just come up with a better idea. It's doubtful but I am willing to give him a chance one more time.

But while they're tussling back and forth, these are still human beings and as such, a civilized nation is required to do what civilized nations are required to do.

And you still haven't responded to the likelihood that the CEO of Comprehensive seems to be using a lot of that taxpayer money for luxuries instead of plunking a few books, pencils and other basic teaching materials and some toilet paper into every tent.

Lol, you are giving her the benefit of the doubt and hoping she might come up with something intellectually ground breaking. She literally just told you that she blames Democrats cause they're in power now. 5 months ago, she was blaming Democrats for not letting Republicans do as they wish. The goal for them is one party rule voted in by a minority of voters, not coherent ideological stances.

You can't reason with that sort of brain myopia. It's bred into them at the GOP conventions.

You're right. Now that I remember her idea of border security is a wall. No mention of BP, legal ports of entry, or anything else really. Just a wall.
