He didnt have to. We did. What you 'know' about me is precisely zero. Some people live their lives pretending to give a ****...some people live their lives acting. I hope you are comfortable with your contributions to the world. Me? Im just fine.
The boy belongs in a state mental facility until the age of 18. 9 years old or not,
how hard is it to put a damn trigger lock on a gun???????????
such an easy step, and it saves lives.

Seeing as how the mother was a convicted felon, she shouldn't even have access to a gun. If she wouldn't follow the law preventing her from owning a gun, what makes you think she would follow a law that required a trigger lock?
Btw, a defensive firearm with a trigger lock is exactly worthless.

Aren't politics based on real life situations? Why would a real-life situation not spark political comments...on a political debate site? I'll never understand people who think that tragic situations ought to be immune to political commentary. Many political positions stem from knowledge of such situations.I was wondering how long it would take for someone to come along and take a tragic situation and make a political comment about it. I figured for that kind of a dickhead move it would take 40...maybe 50 posts. Shoulda known better...
Tell that to the family of the little girl. That gun was loaded, possibly left with the safety off and left exposed. Absolute idiocy. Go ahead, toss the 2nd amendment at me...
Sigh...
right, keep your guns in the house around the kids, without a trigger lock.
that's pure genius.
I agree, locking up a 9 year old is pointless. Lots of mandated counseling, etc. is needed. And yes, the family of the girl will likely sue, as she's still fighting for her life at this time, and they will have huge medical bills.

Both of you are putting words in my mouth, and demonstrably have little to no knowledge of firearms. At no point did I suggest that loaded firearms be left unsecured… I merely pointed out that a convicted felon is not likely to be too concerned with following the law.

Well, why did he bring the gun to school? Was he planning on shooting or threatening somebody? Or was he just bringing it for run?Local News | Father says son who took gun to school 'made a bad mistake' | Seattle Times Newspaper
I'm the first one here to suggest that there be tighter controls on firearms. This whole thing is sickening. And obviously the Mother will get sued at the very least in a civil suit. But I am at a total loss to understand how prosecuting this 9 year old boy, AND keeping him from his custodial parent is a good idea in the wake of this tragic accident.
Putting a 9 year old boy in jail accomplishes what here?
That was the dumbass comment that got a reaction.
...Please do your best to keep your hoplophobic biases in check....
you clearly don't know **** about either of us.
Horse****. You have no idea what his mental capacity, thought process, or reasoning is or was. Kids do indeed sometimes do very stupid things for no good reason. There is nothing that has been presented to indicate he was bringing the gun to school for malevolent purposes. It could have been nothing more than he though it would be cool to show off. And you REALLY believe putting him away for 9 years is helpful...to anyone? Oh...and BTW...if you think 9 years in a mental facility 'helps' anyone or anything you are sadly mistaken. At best they make him a chemical zombie for the duration.
On the contrary, I've seen enough of posts from both of you to draw an accurate conclusion, Thunder. You're on record, after all, wanting to ban all handguns....

It's odd to me how many people in this thread think the kid is totally harmless and it's the mother who should be in jail.
Are we forgetting that children have, in fact, committed crimes and killed others? How do we know he wouldn't have done that later if the gun hadn't gone off?
Obviously the parents are irresponsible, but I still have a lot of questions concerning the kid.
hoplophobic= fears handguns?
you're a liar.
Try Google search...
Sadly, that "dumbass comment" is completely true. You're either just too uninformed or biased to acknowledge it.
There are plenty of ways to render a defensive firearm secure without bolting a lock through the trigger. Sorry.
The way that you clipped out the body of my message and choose to attack one sentence was quite artful though.
You've turned this thread into a personal attack as you always do when someone calls you on your crap.
...The salient point was, whether it is a trigger lock, a safe or some other method of securing that gun, it didn't happen. To suggest that a trigger lock is useless is typical NRA nonsense.
