James Crumbley, the father of the teenager who killed four students at a Michigan high school in 2021, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in a trial that comes a month after the shooter’s mother was convicted of the same charges.

Crumbley was convicted of four counts of involuntary manslaughter, a charge that carries a maximum punishment of up to 15 years in prison, which would run concurrently.

Jury deliberations that concluded Thursday came more than two years after his son, Ethan Crumbley, then 15, used a SIG Sauer 9mm to kill four students and wound six students and a teacher at Oxford High School on November 30, 2021....

Proper verdict.
Parental accountability is a good thing.

Good call. Whenever a minor gets hands on a gun and commits a crime with it whoever was/were responsible for the security of the firearm is equally guilty.

This is the outcome we needed to see.

And justice for 4 families is served. (y) Let this be notice to all of these parents who think they aren't responsible when their kids kill innocent people.

Fascinating how every poster here has rendered an opinion except for the OP.

And you.

It certainly seems that both parents were grossly negligent from what I have seen, but I was not on the jury and dod not have the full.picture to render a fair assessment.

Bullshit.
Read my post again.

Firearm owners and parents of children that get guns have been excused from the firearm epidemic in America and it is time that stopped.
This is a primarily a people issue, specifically a family dynamic & accountability issue.
Arbitrarily trashing firearm owners is inappropriate.

I missed your original post and just responded to what I read, my apologies.

We'll never know how many future shootings by kids these verdicts might prevent, but it's nice to imagine they will have a profound impact. This is the kind of story any responsible main stream media will make sure is widely disseminated from coast to coast. The more parents who hear it, the better the results.

Hopefully, both parents will be maxed out at sentencing. 👍

Nope. This problem is directly a consequence of the attitudes towards firearms that are prevalent in our society. Few, if any states, penalize parents for insecure storage (primarily because NRA wants to promote easy access to loaded guns in homes for security).

Scapegoating “firearms owners” as having any responsibility for the epidemic of killings by juveniles/mass shooting murders in America is crap.

Put the blame where it actually belongs, with people like the Crumbley’s and others that have been criminally negligent or criminally indulgent.

The government needs to stay the **** out of our business.
People in this country who own guns are not at the beck and call of the NRA.
I don’t care about the opinion of the NRA for anything.
You need to actually educate yourself before passing judgement upon others.

Actually, a bare majority of states do have laws that penalize those that fail to properly secure firearms in homes with minors.

Should be every state.

I heard today Jennifer Crumbley is facing 15 years, I would assume her husband will receive the same sentence. Just don't let them out early for good behaviour. 4 teens are dead because of their lousy parenting.

Here is the important facts for you to consider:
The USA has the highest firearm violence rate of all developed countries, by far:

So what?
There are to many self-centered morons here who don’t respect others.
Next.

Should be every state.
The situation is a bit nuanced. 16 states do not penalize gun owner until AFTER child accesses firearm. Only 10 require locked storage pre-emptively.
Of some interest only 13 states require reporting of stolen or missing firearms to law enforcement.
