farming question for red state people

could I actually keep a goat in my house and have it consume my garbage? would it be effective? what would be more trouble, dealing with goat poop or garbage?

How will the goat know what is garbage and what is not?:doh

Try hiring TOT.

Why don't you ask the bum who eats out of the dumpster outside of your high-class down-town apt. bldg to do it for you?

Make sure you wear shoes so to not get any used hypodermic needles stuck in your foot on the way there.:2wave:

I'm considering moving into a converted wharehouse (or factory maybe, it's a giant 19th century industrial building turned into lofts) and it occurred to me that it's so large (it really is titanic, like around 3000 ft) that I could have a goat room if I wanted.

Hhmmm….what about what comes out the other end of the goat?

Can only feed it your organic trash-- food waste and things like that. Otherwise, you end up having to spend a lot of money on goat repair.

That, and I doubt you generate enough food waste to support a goat, so it'll end up costing you a good deal of money. Of course, if you end up with a good deal of lawn space, you can use the goat to keep it neat-- and mulched-- and then supplement its diet with your food waste.

Actually planning on doing the same thing myself, soon as my father's estate clears.

I addressed that. The question is what would be easier: dealing with garbage or dealing with goat poop.

My ideal apartment has a concrete floor and steal drains in every room. All my furniture would be on tall stilts. When my apartment got too dirty I'd just flood it instead of cleaning it.

In movies they eat cans...and I'm a really dirty person.

Cool.

I live in a 2,800 sq ft house in the boonies.

It's nice.

No noise, urine smell or bums puking on the street outside my door.

The place is in the ghetto. That's why its' so big but affordable. I also strongly suspect the building hasnt really been de-asbestosed

Eat them in real life, too. Like I said... leads to costly repairs. Or time-consuming repairs, if you're a do-it-yourselfer. And I don't know exactly how many pounds of food a goat eats in a day, but I can tell you it's more than you do.

Oh.

That's still a sizable chunk of space for the city.

A actually love city flats. I was just joshing. A friend of mine has an uncle who is a big shot with PNC bank. We were allowed to use his city loft for a bachelor party once. One of his bathrooms was about 350 sq ft of solid marble.

The strippers must have thought we were rock-stars.

The place was phenomenal.

Anyhow, black out the windows, double bar the doors, and get a concealed carry permit.

You'll be fine.

It's really far away from the subway, so it's probably not worth it. It would be nice to have space, for once. I spent a year in a 200 sq ft studio...it nearly made me an alcoholic because I spent so much time out just to escape my tiny cell.

They eat things that kill them? Seriously? I assumed that goats have some incredible abillity to process metal.

Nope. They're just really stupid. It isn't digesting the metal that kills them, though-- it's the sharp edges. If they manage to swallow it safely, it'll just sit there until the goat dies of natural causes. Stomach expands to accomodate, unless the goat eats a lot of metal.

They do have pretty stout digestive systems, though. They can manage to digest cotton and wool fibers, and even wood.

OH. MY. GOD. PYGMY GOATS ARE SO CUTE! I WANT ONE!

I found two pygmy goats availble on Craig's list...I seriously may have goats in my near future. I just need to determine what their care is like. I bet you could walk them like a dog.

Gay man, a warehouse, and a goat, there is a joke here somewhere.:2razz:
