DR Congo army says it has thwarted attempted coup

For once a coup actually failed. The DRC army says it stopped a coup against President Felix Tshisekedi involving both Congolese and foreign fighters. Among the foreign fighters were apparently three Americans and one naturalized British citizen who are all arrested. Local media seem to have more information. According to Congolese media the coup was launched by members of the New Zaire movement, and they were led by the exiled Congolese politician Christian Malanga, who was shot dead. His son was also part of the coup, and is one of the American citizens arrested.

“DR Congo is a country with vast mineral wealth and a huge population, but despite this, life has not improved for most people, with conflict, corruption and poor governance persisting.”

Sounds like a sad no win situation.
