Facebook unveils market research app that pays users to take surveys | TheHill

Facebook on Monday announced a new market research app called "Facebook Viewpoints" that will pay users to fill out surveys and participate in research to improve Facebook and other platforms.

Facebook Viewpoints aims to improve platforms beyond Facebook, including Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and Portal, but will only be open to users with a Facebook account. After users complete a certain amount of programs and surveys, they will be paid through their PayPal account.

That's right, they will pay you to give up the rest of your privacy. I see the potential for some cons in this.

I'm sorry but FB is trying hard to prove they're just ****ing evil. I keep my account - deleted it off my phone - just to have some way to keep up with a few friends I only interact with rarely on FB, but they're trying hard to get me to hard delete forever.

So they'll have you do the surveys, bundle those up and sell them to the highest bidder to enable bots, trolls and propagandists to better target their ads in 2020. Unbelievable.

This should not be surprising to anyone.

Think about it, what is Facebook’s business model?

At the end of the day it is information. How that information is used drives everything from advertisements to system use design, and while it may be continued questionable behavior by Facebook this is what they have been doing all along.

You as the end user of the service have every right to stop using that service.

Anyone that cooperates with this FB scam deserves what happens to them.

I'm so happy I never fell into the facebook pit, I always figured if a friend or relative wants to talk or share photos, they can call me or email me, and that goes both ways. One of my relatives begged me to join, gave me their password to check it out. Not only was I very unimpressed about the content and how spammy it was, it confirmed my desire to never register there. Funny, I checked the page a few times after that to look at updated photos, and my relative didn't even appear to be an active poster, occasional like or added photo. That, and all the negative things I've heard in the news about facebook abusing members and their privacy is another turn off. If that is social media, call me anti-social. ;)
