This isn't regulating the economy, it's a wild attempt to influence the economy of the world in our favor by taxing ourselves to influence what we consume and from where.

Edit: They may think it's going to work, but so far as I am aware, you can't predict the response to tariffs.

Edit: And the REASON it won't work is that we aren't the biggest and best consumer in the world anymore.

This is happening because MAGA decided the Idiot-in-Chief should be given another opportunity to highlight his corruption, his incompetence, and his stupidity. Also because MAGA agrees with trump that pandering to putin is in the interests of the USA.

Trump is the one who has engaged in a global trade war. That's not a result of "government regulation", no matter how you slice and dice it. It's solely upon trump, MAGA, and all those who decided to vote 3rd party or not to vote at all, rather than act like decent and patriotic adults and work to see that trump had no opportunity to get back in the WH by voting for Harris.

What you might not realize is that the word, "regulation", has for a long time now carried a negative connotation in right-wing politics. That's what I assumed and reacted to.
 
F150 prices were already up 55%. This will add another $400 just for the steel and aluminum.

There will also be price increases for the parts manufactured in foreign countries.

Does one have to declare their political alliance in order to purchase a Ford truck? Glad they were never on my list.

I bought a 2012 Highlander because I was driving around 2 young travel soccer players and their friends. That ship has sailed but the car runs great even with 170k. Looking for something smaller but with the asshole malignant narcissist scumbag piece of shit liar grifter rapist seditionist felon serial adulterer and tax cheat and his tariffs bullshit I will hold off. Like many I'm sure.

I read an article on the use of pickup trucks. Most don't need to transport large items, maybe once a year. Same goes with hauling. The F150 is the best selling vehicle in the US. Maybe 2nd now but right there. As you say it's quite expensive. Far cheaper to rent a truck or uhaul for the 1 or 2 times you need it. I'm guessing more of a status symbol.

I want countries that impose tariffs on American exports to stop charging those tariffs. Quite a few of these countries have volunteered to negotiate eliminating these tariffs. President Trump said that if they get rid of their tariffs, we will get rid of our tariffs on their exports to us.
