BAGHDAD — Refinery workers, witnesses and an Iraqi Army officer reported the seizure of Iraq’s biggest oil refinery by Sunni extremists on Wednesday after army helicopter gunships failed to repel their attack. But other Iraqi officials, including the commander of the garrison defending the refinery in Baiji, asserted that fighting was still going on inside the extensive facility, shut down by the violence.
Get ready for another spike in oil prices..... Which should remind us that, had we been pursuing alternative energy sources more vigorously, we wouldn't be depending on the most volatile area in the world for much of our oil. This should be a wake up call to all Americans to sack each and every Congress member who obstructs any attempt to wean us off Middle East oil. If we are not willing to do that, then, as Cassius once said, "The fault lies not in our stars, but in ourselves", and we will economically deserve everything we get.
