He may have misremembered and misrepresented your initial remark, but IMO you're not in the position of complaining about not being acknowledged when your initial claims has been proven to be ignorant and you haven't acknowledged that. The 90 minute response time was not "crazy". PeteEU has done a fine job of explaining the delay.
I didn't ask for an explaination and it seems that nobody agree's that the amount of time it took authorities to arrive is acceptable.
I am a proponent of the 2nd ammendment. However I do not know of one act of terrorism such as this that was prevented by the Right to Bear Arms.
You said it was crazy that it took 90 minutes. Whether you asked for an explanation, the reasons it took 90 minutes were posted, and they show that it was not "crazy"
Unacceptable is not the same as crazy
99.9% of these kinds of attacks take place in areas where everyone is knowingly unarmed; the right to keep and bear arms isn't anywhere in the neighborhood.
Considering the cowardice of murdering a few dozen youngsters trapped on an island, he would have found another target.
The people in the WTC had the right to keep and bear arms. It didn't stop the planes. Dr Vitter had the right to keep and bear arms. It didn't stop the rightwing terrorist from shooting him. The FBI agents in the Federal bldg in OKC had the RTKBA but that didn't stop McVeigh.
Shooting at two aircraft with handguns wouldn't have done a damn bit of good, either. Guns aren't much defense against car bombs and aircraft being used as cruise missiles.
Apples and oranges. What's next? The 2nd Amendment didn't stop the Joplin tornado?
Gee, I see you neglected to address the other examples I gave
I'll wait
What do you mean?
I doubt anyone 'fears' they were Islamists. They've just become the usual suspects in cases like this.
Well it's understandable for the average joe to speculate, but it's another thing when 2 American news networks cross the line and say things like this:
"Deadly terror attacks in Norway, in what appears to be the work, once again, of Muslim extremists." -- Laura Ingraham, on Bill O'Reilly's show.
Or CNN's Tom Lister who said this...
"You've only got to look at the target--prime minister's office, the headquarters of the major newspaper group next door. Why would that be relevant? Because the Norwegian newspapers republished the cartoons of Prophet Mohammad that caused such offense in the Muslim world.... That is an issue that still rankles amongst Islamist militants the world over."
Then maybe they should be like the US, and put more resurces into the police forces. If they had a helicopter, then a lot of youth would be safe. Norway is not a safe paradise, and needs proper police forces.Secondly Norway is not the USA. Police are not heavily armed and have tanks and attack helicopters. As the police chief said, the helicopters they have are for surveillance and not people transport. There has not been any need for such transportation before
It's not that remote. It takes 30 minutes to get there from the capital. and it only takes 10-15 minutes to get there from Buskerud police district. If they don't have a boat in the area, then bring one. You organize things like this beforehand, not after.Thirdly, you refuse to acknowledge the remoteness of the island.. why is that? First of all it is an ISLAND.. to where you need a boat to get too.. Secondly it is not a heavily populated area in the first place and a large area at that. The biggest crime the police in the area deal with is speeding, break-ins and some domestic violence. Chances are there has not been a murder in the area for decades.
So I can't be critical that they didn't have a helicopter or that the local police forces didn't send anyone over with guns. Your argument that Norway is not like the US doesn't excuse it. It just states that Norway has different policies, policies they should have changed. Norway has been very naive, and that's why so many youth died. The ONLY thing anyone can be really critical of is, that the Police took 20 minutes to find boats for the island, but even that can be explained by that the locals had set to sea to pick up fleeing children from the ice cold water.
Ah yes, journalism isn't what it used to be.
