Can someone pro or anti Trump explain to me why Trump supporters cannot admit his faults? I have been a democrat for decades, and I can acknowledge that democrats like JFK and Clinton were unfaithful, that LBJ made a horrific mistake in his Vietnam policy, that FDR detained citizens of Japanese descent, and still remain a democrat. But on this forum, when I note things that are undeniable, that are part of the public record, the responses I get very often are not rebuttals of facts, but TDS, TDS, over and over again. What is it with some Trump supporters that has them with their own TDS, i.e., Trump Denial Syndrome? What gives?

I think some of them truly admire him and are supportive of his actions no matter how egregious. What they don't like they just ignore. Others simply cannot bring themselves to criticize him because they view that as giving into liberals. You can tell they are not supportive of what he has said or done when there is total silence on the subject.

It is a response that seeks to defend the indefensible, without bothering with facts or thought.

They don't realize perhaps that they are admitting to an ED.
Honestly, for some there has to be a measure of embarrassment as well. They know in their hearts Donald is a clown at best, and a dangerously incompetent and corrupt elitist at worst. There is no defense for supporting such an individual, so any criticism of him reflects poorly on them. Better to simply hand wave it all away with "TDS!!!" than risk engaging.

You could put up a long post containing nothing but direct, word-for-word quotes of things Trump has said and be accused of TDS.
That's how deep the denial runs. Trump Denial Syndrome.

TDS is just maga code for "I lost the debate, but I don't wanna stop talking shit". It really doesn't merit much consideration beyond that understanding.

The true meanings of TDS:

Trump’s Dishonest Sycophants
Trump’s Devout Sycophants
Trump’s Delusional Sycophants
Trump Dishonesty Syndrome
Trump Deflection Syndrome
Trump Devotion Sickness

It's a MAGA condition, Trump Derangement Syndrome.

I just posted this elsewhere:

That's what MAGA knowingly voted for...even after TACO's false elector scheme in 2020 attempt to become a dictator, illegally remaining pres. They wanted that. They need to be led, they want that iron-fisted guidance. Obeying then relieves them of responsibility and brings them security...and makes them feel superior over non-MAGA. It's their sad "riding on the coat-tails" of being important.

They're knowlingly following someone who fawns over Putin, Jong Un, Orban and praises their "leadership."

The subjects do not question the king.

It's a cult.

Trump has transcended being just a mere mortal or just another political figure in America. He has touched something deep, something in many Americans' souls that was being artificially suppressed- all the viscleral hate, fear, racism, bigotry misogyny, ignorance- all such an inextricable part of who they are, but being denied to them all these years. They were getting tired of trying to act like someone they are not. He came on the scene and just did and said what they had been shamed into silence over. He "said it like it is", and made all those things not just acceptable, but something to be proud about. So he is now elevated to the status of cult prophet. He was their salvation.

So comparing him to other political figures is going to leave you scratching your head. You will not understand Trump in that way. THIS is how to approach the Trump phenomenon (have you ever seen anything like this with any of those other political figures?):

You answered you own question, you said something that is undeniable so you have TDS, simple as that.

lawfare / impeachment /impeachment again / politicians running on "get Trump' and the out of control leftists screaming Hitler and fascist

well said

I suppose that could explain it for 1-2 folks, but this seems to be more than that, but still don’t unless I focus on Trump’s comment about shooting someone on Fifth Ave and not losing some support — which was basically an insult to those supporters.

You begin with a false statement.

I have been a democrat for decades, and I can acknowledge that democrats like JFK and Clinton were unfaithful, that LBJ made a horrific mistake in his Vietnam policy, that FDR detained citizens of Japanese descent, and still remain a democrat.
You go back to the FDR administration?

But on this forum, when I note things that are undeniable, that are part of the public record,
There are many false things promoted as undeniable and part of the record.

For example, the impeachments are groundless; there was no 6 January insurrection; Trump did not attempt to steal the 2020 election; the civil and criminal prosecutions were malicious and likely have no chance of standing on appeal, etc.

the responses I get very often are not rebuttals of facts, but TDS, TDS, over and over again.
If you espouse any of the above, or any of several other narratives--eg Trump is fascist or a King--you are showing TDS.

Claiming you are not is denial.

What is it with some Trump supporters that has them with their own TDS, i.e., Trump Denial Syndrome? What gives?
You are treating narrative and opinion as fact.

That fallacy is going to trip you repeatedly.

Good grief, do you know where those things were posted?

Feel better? Guess what, he's still a convicted criminal, he's still been impeached twice and he does have some Hitler-like characteristics. He's sending his law goons all over the country, states are declaring states of emergency because of fear and trump does nothing but spit hatred out of his mouth.

TDS is easy to remember. Don't need to research a topic or compose a thoughtful reply. Just accuse anyone critical of Trump as suffering TDS.

It's lame, it's childish, and it actually makes the person using the term look like a petulant child rather than the target.

Listen folks, we ALL know why there are those who throw TDS out there as a lame excuse to defend their fearless leader. I don't even have to post anything but will just the same:

Zero tolerance for criticism or questions
If that lot of mindless minions had any idea of what TDS actually stood for, they wouldn't use it:

I feel sorry for that lot. To be THAT simple minded.

White male mediocrity. The less-competitive males are expressing their resentment and blame of women and minorities from taking their jobs, opportunities, women, etc. Their sense of entitlement has been inflamed.

"When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality seems like oppression."
Unkwn

TDS is what Trumpco customers tell themselves about other people
so the Trumpco customers can avoid acknowledging something unpleasant about Trump or Trumpco

Thought terminating clichés are a WELL KNOWN and popular technique among cults.

A thought-terminating cliché is a form of loaded language intended to quell cognitive dissonance

A thought-terminating cliché (also known as a semantic stop-sign, a thought-stopper, bumper sticker logic, or cliché thinking) is a form of loaded language—often passing as folk wisdom—intended to end an argument and quell cognitive dissonance with a cliché rather than a point.
