Exclusive: Trump says he thought being president would be easier than his old life

He misses driving, feels as if he is in a cocoon, and is surprised how hard his new job is.
President Donald Trump on Thursday reflected on his first 100 days in office with a wistful look at his life before the White House.
"I loved my previous life. I had so many things going," Trump told Reuters in an interview. "This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier."

Yes, being president is much more difficult than he thought. Why didn't he know that? The U.S. is not a personally held company with the president at the head telling others what to do. Did he think the Secret Service was like having private security he could tell to get lost when he felt like it?

This is public service and a person elected to the position, gives themself over to it and works in cooperation with the other two, autonomous branches.

Kind of surprised he's admitting this in public, and before the first 100 days is up.

It's admitting to a whole lot of underestimating on his part. I know other presidents, the last one included, missed their privacy, but I can't think of another who made these kinds of confessions.

He probably expected to be given a fair shot by the MSM and the establishment. I'm sure the open and outright hatred is emotionally draining. He'll get used to it though. The job of the president isn't really that hard in and of itself.

Lots of people think that X position is always easier. Or at least easy enough that they could do it better than THAT guy. How many threads have been started at DP over the years with the line of "If you were President....."?

No, I don't think I am. If one considers running to become the president of the U.S., probably the most powerful position in the world, they should give it some deep thought. It should come as not surprise that it would be harder than any job they've ever held and any one who thinks it would be easier, is deluding themselves.

This has nothing to do with being given a good shot at it. He actually said it should be easier than running his company. Of course it's more difficult. The president is not a CEO. A CEO is not responsible for the safety of millions of citizens. The consequences of doing it wrong in a company is you go bankrupt. The consequences of a bad decision as commander-in-chief are significantly more dangerous.

If you honestly think being the president of the U.S. is not hard, I have nothing further to discuss with you. That's a non-starter.

The thing with running for president, is that one should start from the position that they would be responsible for the security of a nation in a world that is full of conflict and a nutcase like Kim-Jung-Un. There is nothing on the face of that which screams "Man, that would be so easy to deal with".

Aside from national security, domestic policy is no walk in the park either. For instance, health care is 1/5 of our economy. The number of moving parts in that equation is mind boggling.

Then add 2 co-equal branches of government. Five hundred and thirty five individuals to deal with. Yeah. That's a cake walk.
