Ex-SC Gov. Sanford back in political office
Former Republican South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford revived a scandal-scarred political career by winning back his old congressional seat Tuesday in a district that hasn't elected a Democrat in three decades.
The comeback was complete when he defeated Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, the sister of political satirist Stephen Colbert. With 87 percent of the precincts reporting, Sanford had 54 percent of the vote.
too ****in funny to see this level of partisan blindness.
The only oddity was how many people fell for the delusion that a Dem had a chance.

Which only shows how sad and divisive partisans have become. So much for the whole diatribe during the Clinton years the GOP threw about about how "Character matters!!111111!!!!!"
The Clinton issue was never character; it was lying under oath.
I think she did have a chance. I think she really was ahead for awhile until Mark Sanford started to aggressively tie her to the national democrats and also began to get endorsements from people like Jim Demint and Ted Cruz.

Bull
****
All through that whole thing they beat that "character matters" drum. they were screaming that well before he went under oath.
Hell the right-wing has their own pac called "character matters pac".
A Dem propaganda meme.

Have you ever been to that district? A Repub will win Harlem before a Dem wins SC1.
its no different than black areas reelecting convicts like Marion "Snort" Barry etc
Ketner came pretty close in 08. Sometimes there is a perfect storm and people win districts like those though. Matheson, Mcintyre and Barrow are all Democrats in districts more Republican than this one. Missouri's about 10 points Republican at this point and a Democrat won in the senate by 15 just last year. So things like this sometimes happen.
That said, Sanford ran an excellent campaign and ensured that Republicans keep the district.
No it's not any different. In fact, I think that is an apt comparison.
Let me ask a question
I have a choice of two candidates
one is a philandering whoring slut dog but he has a track record of voting "the right way" on every issue that matters to me
the other is a choir boy, with no scandals, no baggage but he supports the "wrong" position on every issue I care about
who should I vote for?
Third party.
I vote for politicians not because I am picking a priest, a friend, a business partner or a lover but because
1) hopefully they will enact or get rid of laws so as to benefit me and what I think is best or
2) they will screw me over LESS than the other viable choice
given that I will pick a slut or horn dog over a virgin if the slut is going to enact the right policies.
If I were in the district and I was a die-hard dem and the dem did what he did, even if you removed the whole cheating on his wife thing... I couldn't vote for him. Even if you don't have political issues with his cheating character because its a personal issue vs. his public career, that's fine. He stole taxpayer money to fund his liasons. I don't know how that could be forgiven because that is his private ****-up ****ing up his professional life.
If a scandel ridden character like mark Sanford can get elected again, then Anthony weiner phas a shot of becoming mayor
"In one of Colbert Busch’s only campaign events aimed at African Americans, she spoke at a black history celebration in February at Summerville High school." Black Voters Are Key to a Colbert Busch Win in South Carolina - NationalJournal.com
20% of the voters in that district are black and she speaks to them one time two months ago?
Are we sure she wanted to win? I don't recall that Obama went down there or even mentioned her.
