Evidence for the Bible / God [W536; 634]

First show me a rational, unbiased Christ-denier?

Tons of them. Can you show me anyone who can demonstrate God exists using objective evidence? Didn't think so.

Wrong again.

p.s. Watch out for that first step into eternity.

I have no fear of eternity. You however are in for a very very unhappy time.

Ooh, empty threats! Might as well be condemning me to an eternity in Hogwarts.

No he's not, he's going to be dead like everyone else.

Regardless of how you look at it either there is a God or there isn't. If there is no God he will not enjoy the fruits of an afterlife. If there is a God his promoting a anti-God religion will result in him not getting to enjoy said afterlife. It is lose/lose either way.

Logically, there either is a god of some sort or there is not. There are no other options. However, all options are not equally likely. There is no objective, demonstrable evidence that any god of any kind exists, thus that is not a likely alternative. Every shred of evidence we have shows that when you die, that's the end. Therefore, neither he, nor anyone else, will have any part of any afterlife because there's no reason to think that any of them are actually real.

Correction either there is a God or there isn't a God or there are Gods or there aren't Gods.. What I certain is that Logicman is not following the teachings of any God(s) but some BS that he interprets to align with his prejudices and beliefs so that he can feel good about himself.

You mean people who rely on some amount of actual evidence before committing to believing something? I would say there are plenty here already.

How does that differ from any other supposed Christian? There are 38,000 distinct sects of Christianity. Apparently, at least 37,999 of them are not following the correct teachings of any God either.

Nope all 38000

Nope all 38000

Then they are all wrong, in addition to every other religion on the planet. We return to the undeniable fact that there is no objective evidence to support the existence of any god, therefore anyone who believes in any of them is a fool.

Belief is fine, extremist fanaticism is the problem.

Believing anything for which there is no objective evidence is the problem. Believing factually true things is fine.

Nope accepting factual things as true is fine believing stuff is ok as long as you do not get fanatical about it.
For instance most people believe their S/O loves them and is faithful. Reality proves to us that unfortunately this is not always the case. There is nothing wrong with believing your S/O loves you and is faithful unless you believe so despite proof or very strong evidence to the contrary. Then you are on a train heading to disaterville full steam ahead.
Belief is fine, fanaticism is problematic.

Most people can prove their S/O is actually real. Well, I guess the idiots with secret girlfriends that live in Canada might be the exception, but they're both delusional and dishonest. Religion is essentially people claiming to have a god, yet totally unable to prove that it's true. I consider them on the same level as the people with secret girlfriends.

Well that had nothing to do with what I said.....

It had everything to do with what you said. People can provide evidence that their S/O exists, which is essential to demonstrating they are faithful. The religious cannot even prove their gods are real. Therefore, people's assertions about their S/O are infinitely more credible than their assertions about their gods.

I wasn't talking about whether their SO existed but whether or not they loved them and were faithful. Your analogy does not hold. Belief is not a problem as long as it does not cause problems which is the case with fanatics. Atheistic fanatics can be just as bad as theistic ones. The problem Is not with belief but with fanaticism of any shape or stripe.

How can you know if they are faithful if you don't even know if they are real? How can you prove to someone else that they are faithful if you can't even prove to anyone else that you even have a real S/O?

What? You don't know if your S/O is real?
Ok well in that case I think you have bigger problems than worry about if they are faithful or not

I can prove my wife is real. Can you prove your god is real? Come on, you're being ridiculous.

"Believing" is more than just the mere act of having faith, as thing in itself. Believing is what enables you to do greater things than would be possible, without believing. Even when there is no "evidence". Evidence is not the only thing that matters in human affairs. In fact, sometimes the one who believes is far more potent and capable of survival than the one who is limited by mere evidence. Belief empowers us to have courage to try, stand firm in the face of seemingly inevitable failure. Belief separates the truly great from the mundane.
