Here is a recent article about this.
Paralyzed man weeps as high court denies his right-to-die | Fox News
So the question for the poll I am asking.
Does a person have the right to die?
Who said anything about it being easy or forgettable?
Well, when you say things like "I'd do it in a second;" I'm just saying unless you have been in that situation before, you really don't know if you could, and that it might be a LOT harder than you think and could have long-term mental/emotional consequences, and that could be the case with a family member of your's if they did that for you. I'm certainly not trying to be insulting.
Yes, I would do it in a second because I know it's necessary. Making rational decisions without resorting to being overly-emotional is the sign of a mature individual. Do what you need to do, when you need to do it.
But apparently, you think you know better. Go figure.
As a libertarian, I value personal responsibility above many other things. Euthanasia is asking someone else to kill you. I personally think it's more responsible to do it yourself, rather than insisting someone else take on your own responsibility.
It would be much harder to kill your wife, child, husband, etc., than it would be to kill your cat. Not that you don't love your cat.
I have some experience in death. Not in assisted suicide though.
I certainly don't want to watch my cat die in my arms. But she deserves to, if it gets to that point. It's not about me. And it wouldn't be about me if we were talking about my family, or my friends, or my partner. It's not about me. It's about them, and their dignity.
Maybe. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't do it. It's not as though people don't do it every day. People do kill their loved ones out of mercy or request, and in my eyes, they are very strong and loving people.
Yes, it would be hard. Yes, it would probably stick with me forever. That does not mean it isn't the right thing to do.
And what if it was you who was ill (God forbid)? Would you ask your family member?
Some people are so sick or disabled they aren't capable of doing it themselves. It's well and good to say that as an able-bodied person, but how would a quad pull it off?

A bed to die in? Sure. It wouldn't bother me if every smoker on the planet dropped dead tomorrow. Their actions, their responsibilities.
I've got plenty of experience with death, including being on the brink of it. And virtually nobody has any experience in assisted suicide, it's illegal.
That is a very tragic case in my opinion.
Death with Dignity in terminal cases is legal in my state.

Okaaaaay....
Have a nice day.
People need to be responsible for their actions and that means dealing with the consequences of those actions. You act like that's a problem.
No.
My 'problem' is that, even though I do not smoke anymore, to not be bothered at the prospect of tens/hundreds of millions of fathers/mothers/sons/daughters who smoke dropping dead tomorrow (as you in essence typed) is callous in the extremis.
Please do not talk about smoking! It is nobody's business if I or anybody else wants to smoke or drink or consume sugar or whatever!!!!!!!
What is this? the smoking Nazi police? Prohibition America?
So sick of the nanny state and the nazi nanny followers!
Ummmmmm....okaaaaaaaaay.
You have a nice night now.
it's only Monday 3. 25 pm here in Sydney
but thanks anyway

Who has said a word about a nanny state or anything of the sort? You choose what you want to do and you suffer the consequences of your decisions. Full stop.
Wanting people to be responsible is one thing. No, that's their choice. Nobody held a gun to their head and told them to smoke/drink in excess/do drugs/speed on the highway/jump off buildings/etc. They made a decision and they are solely liable for the consequences of said decision. Nobody is talking about stopping these people from doing unsafe things, only in holding them responsible for what they choose, of their own free will, to do.
