EU Ministers Extend Crimea Sanctions For Another Year

This is what people don'y understand.

It is the Ukrainian government that is evil and corrupt.

Indeed.

Maybe the serial purveyors of western narrative would care to explain the following:

If Kiev is such a caring government of all Ukrainians, why does it employ a blockade on benefits and pension payments to citizens of Donbas, and periodically and indiscriminately shell and destroy their homes and infrastructure?

This is the action of a government which does not care for those it purports to be 'liberating'. Kiev knows that, like Crimea, Donbas will also never return to direct rule, at least not without a proper federal arrangement as mandated by the Minsk Accord.

I suppose that, in a post modern post truth world, Yanukovych was not actually elected, and that the US did not interfere beyond Nuland handing out cookies to peace loving protestors in Kiev :).

The EU has dutifully voted to self harm for another 12 months, guaranteeing continued insecurity on its border, with the other guarantee that it will make no difference at all. Because Crimea is part of Russia for ever - anyone with a rudimentary understanding of Russia knows that.

So what's this really about? It's really an illustration of the pathetic weakness of the EU and its subservience to US foriegn policy whims, at least when it comes to Russia. Because the last thing the US wants is for Europe to have any rapprochement with Russia - that would weaken its hold. Russia must be kept angry, a brooding threat to weak little European states, because that keeps them dependent on the US.

Hitler was duly elected... Point?

And the cookie thing. That is a standard RT.com, Sputnik talking point. One can tell a Putin Apologist by the talking points they regurgitate.

And any who is a real student of history knows the Crimea was ceded over to Ukraine and therefore was Ukrainian property.

And I believe they also has the right to secede from the Ukraine, and the exercised that option.

Helping?

By illegally annexing territory?

By saying it was illegal means you believe the propaganda out there.

Crimea wanted Russia help. They wanted to secede from the Ukraine.

Is that actually illegal?

Apparently, Planar, Crimeans lost the right to self determination, which is enshrined in the UN Charter .

Of course, Kosovo's secession from Serbia, which happened without a referendum and under the threat of a US military invasion of Serbia, was all perfectly above board according to those great guardians of international morality - the US and its sycophant allies.

Catalans - different story again. A referendum there, but seemed 'illegal' by the west - I assume because it didn't return the desired result.

Complicated world of sublime double standards and hypocrisy.

What "propaganda"?

Is or is not Crimea under Russian control even though is had been Ukrainian for 60 or so years?

Apparently the "right to self determination" only is sacred when someone wants to join Russia....

As to Kosovo feel free to refer to UN Resolution 1199.

United Nations General Assembly Resolution 68/262 was adopted on March 27, 2014 by the sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly in response to the Russian annexation of Crimea and entitled "Territorial integrity of Ukraine". The non-binding resolution, which was supported by 100 United Nations member states, affirmed the General Assembly's commitment to the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and underscored the invalidity of the 2014 Crimean referendum. Eleven nations voted against the resolution, while 58 abstained, and a further 24 states were absent when the vote took place.

The resolution was introduced by Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine.[1] The adoption of the resolution was preceded by the unsuccessful attempts of the United Nations Security Council, which convened seven sessions to address the Crimean crisis, only to face a Russian veto[2] of draft resolution S/2014/189,[3] sponsored by 42 countries.

The UN General Assembly also passed the related Resolution 71/205 in December 2016, entitled "Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)".

The (2014 Crimean referendum) was regarded as illegitimate by most members of the European Union, the United States and Canada because of the events surrounding it[16] including the plebiscite being held while the peninsula was host to Russian soldiers. Thirteen members of the United Nations Security Council voted in favor of a resolution declaring the referendum invalid, but Russia vetoed it and China abstained.[17][18] A United Nations General Assembly resolution was later adopted, by a vote of 100 in favor vs. 11 against with 58 abstentions, which declared the referendum invalid and affirmed Ukraine's territorial integrity.[16]

The official Soviet notice that Crimea is transferred to Ukraine.

Do you want me to post the official documentation incorporating Crimea as part of the Russian Federation?

Ultimately it doesn't matter what the West or Kiev think. Crimea is part of Russia and that will not change because of sanctions or half hearted declarations of dis-approval by western leaders.

The West needs to move out of the corner into which it has backed itself.

The international community does matter which is why Russia is under economic sanctions from the US, the EU, Canada, Australia, and Japan.

UN Resolution 68/262.....

27 MARCH 2014 said:
The General Assembly today affirmed its commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, political independence, unity and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, underscoring the invalidity of the 16 March referendum held in autonomous Crimea.

the Assembly adopted a resolution titled “Territorial integrity of Ukraine”, calling on States, international organizations and specialized agencies not to recognize any change in the status of Crimea or the Black Sea port city of Sevastopol, and to refrain from actions or dealings that might be interpreted as such. Also by the text, the Assembly called on States to “desist and refrain” from actions aimed at disrupting Ukraine’s national unity and territorial integrity, including by modifying its borders through the threat or use of force.

EU Leaders Agree To Extend Sanctions On Russia

6/29/18
BRUSSELS -- European Union leaders have agreed to extend the bloc’s economic sanctions penalizing Russia for its aggression in Ukraine. The sanctions have been renewed every six months since 2014. In a summit statement, the EU leaders also reiterated their "full support" for a UN resolution on the downing of MH17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014, killing over 200 people on board. An official investigation concluded that a Russian Buk missile system that was based at a Russian military base was used to shoot down the aircraft. Russia denies any responsibility. The EU statement calls on Russia to "accept its responsibility and fully cooperate with all efforts to establish truth, justice, and accountability" in response to the incident.

And the EU hasn't yet considered Muscovy war crimes in Syria.
