The EU will never be as might as the USA or Russia, but it doesn need to be to find its place in the sun.

Our advantage is that we have a 1000 years of international experience and speak many languages and are average citizens are smarter and better educated than most Americans.

We dont need to be a Superpower, but important enough, that nobody can ignore us. In such forums I have found that Americans as a whole consider us to be irrevelent or a 3rd world continent! Yes they think they are Gods gift to the world, but forget it was europe who populated America and gave them there culture and political thought.

For this reason, we should leave NATO and stregthen our own european army. We dont need Americas nuclear shield and they should learn to treat us as equals, otherwise it is very lonely at the top.

If you have the advantage, why our you whining?......

What do you want from us? If you wanna run with the big dogs then get off the porch. Do we need to find you guys something to do? We need all the help we can get. How bout the EU taking care of the Africa situation? Or better yet, why don't you all go fix Somalia?

I find the EU irrelevant, not Europe. Dealing with the superpowers of Western Europe (which is mostly UK, France, and Germany) is fine and dandy. Nothing wrong with it, Europe is a cool place with diverse economies and a strong history with America.

I think you've got some anti-American tendencies there though pal.

Whats with the inferiority complex?

Feel free to explore the planets and the solar system and donate your hard earned money to every 3rd world country on the face of the earth.

Oh wait thousands of years of religious oppression has stagnated the ability to innovate and dream of a better tomorrow.

Speaking of religious references......

"And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children built. 6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth."

Many languages seems to be quite a communication barrier to some.

We have no national language anyway.

Too many people in the EU itself think just the same. An EU army is 'needed', as if their hitherto-beloved UN and NATO aren't good enough. The EU 'needs' to stand against the USA.

Why?

With debt, strife, hostility to things like the single currency and Lisbon itself, etc, the EU needs to sort its own house out before trying to take on the world. That is, of course, if you assume that an EU in its current (de)form is actually considered needed by anyone other than the elite who run it.

:rofl

Sure thing bud. We'll bring all our troops home tomorrow, and all our gear and weapons systems. We'll leave you to your own devices. If anyone bothers you, you and your sophistication will be sufficient to handle it, right?

After all, you did such a bang up job of defending yourselves from the Nazis, the Soviets and etc for the past half-century...

You have some points in there somewhere but they're so badly put and so anti-American that you become a laughing stock.

You don't defeat anti-Europe American posters by rubbishing America - you do it by putting forward a solid position and defending it. You recognise that there are many anti-Europe posters and you've attracted some with your title and thread - but you've done nothing to bring about a debate on the idea of Europe and America finding their own mutually respectful positions and paths.

Where is bennyhill? Did he cut and run? Benny Hill was an english comedian.

Good thing the Nazi's are no longer and the nation who gave Europe the Nazi's is part of the EU

And that the Soviets have collapsed, and the nation that made up most of the power of the old USSR is a declining state, with most of its military gear two generations behind that of what Europe has. That EU has a population 3 times that of Russia, an economy 10 times that of Russia.

Whatever. [/ignore]

:rofl

Ah. You don't see any major threats now (because we defeated or outproduced them into irrelevance), so you're done with us then?

So, when the next big threat looms, we should just leave you to it then?

Okay.

Okay.

An EU with a military would have easily the second largest military on earth, the 3 rd largest population and the second largest if not largest economy.

Realisticay they could deal with any regional issues just fine, including Russia

The EU would fall apart the minute France surrenders. Heard of the 6 day war? Try six minutes. :rofl

It is a bit late my friend. If more European countries had followed France when we left NATO in the 60's, we would have a stronger European army by now. Today we depend so much on the USA that such a move would be impractical.

The french only surrender to the germans and they would be fighting along side this time

Just count you're blessings tonight that people like me aren't in the diplomacy business.:sword:

An EU with a military would be quite a sight to behold. Yes indeedy. Second largest in the world? Hm...maybe. I don't think you'd get that with a volunteer force though, military service, indeed all things military, don't seem overly popular in Europe.

But hey, fine. Go for it. We'll bring our boys'n'girls home and leave you to it.

We'll be sending you a bill for defending you for the past 65 yrs tho...

Budget wise it would be the second largest in the world

Manpower, it would lag India, China and the US

Technology wise it would lag only the US

I think they might send you a bill back for rental fees,

Be like that then. When the next Adolph has conquered everything on the continent and is knocking on London's door, maybe we'll sit that one out.

Assuming there's even still an EU in twenty years...

Well you have better TV. Especially Doctor Who. LOVE that show!!! Plus I think your women are MUCH nicer! I also prefer your beer.

I shouldn't worry. Most ordinary citizens wouldn't want an EU army. And unlike the US Army, the different nationalities would have all kinds of barriers to overcome, not least political ones with squabbling EU leaders wondering where to invade/poke its nose next.

They have better choices for transit. I'm tired of dealing with vehicles.

I call BS on your last statement. English is the national language. Sure, you can speak any language you want at home, or even in your community, but if you want to go anywhere, you won't unless you learn the national language, which, once again, is.....

Drum roll please......

English.
